Description:
The Initiative for Hygiene, Sanitation, and Nutrition ( IHSAN ) is a five – year project whose goal is to assisting the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan ( GIRoA ) , civil society organizations ( CSOs ) , and the private sector to carry out and scale up evidence – based nutrition and water, hygiene, and sanitation ( WASH ) interventions that will improve the nutritional status of women and children less than five years old . Specific project objectives include enhancing capacity to institutionalize nutrition programs, increasing adoption of optimal nutrition and hygiene behaviors at community and household levels; and increasing availability of nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation services and products increased . The project will focus on the 10 provinces with poorest nutritional indicators based on the 2014 national nutrition assessment . Recognizing that significant variations in health situations exist between districts and sub – districts in each province, we will promote improved nutrient intake and awareness and improved sanitation and hygiene practices by working with provincial health authorities and communities to strive toward improved coverage in priority areas .
Job Summary / Responsibilities:
Social and Behavior Change Communications(SBCC)Manager will be an FHI 360 employee working and placed at the IHSAN office in Kabul.Under the guidance of the WASH/Nutrition Director, SBCC Manager will participate in the design of and lead the implementation planning and materials generation for all demand generation activities.The SBCC Manager will supervise the SBCC Officer and actively work with the Technical Specialists and technical leads of consortium partners to assist with implementation and monitoring of SBCC field activities and reporting to ensure activities are implemented according to the work plan schedule.
The responsibilities of the position include:
Providing technical assistance to develop and implement SBCC strategies and activities in all phases of the project andhelps develop, maintain, and follow the indicators set in the workplan for SBCC activities.
Responsibility for sharing best practices in nutrition/WASH and contribute to the knowledge base through collaboration with relevant departments and personnel and through participation in scientific forums and technical networks.
Developing or reviewing technical resource materials(e.g., training materials, SBCC plans, strategy documents, job aids)and programming tools to support meeting Project objectives.
Designing and collaborating on formative research for messages and materials development
Providing technical assistance to public sector partners and works with partners to design communication and messaging content.
Ensuring that SBCC materials are pre-tested, proved effective and used efficiently and by the correct target group.
Collaborating with other technical specialists and stakeholders beyond the project to ensure coordination of materials and communication message strategies and avoid gaps and overlaps.
Qualifications:
Experience and Qualifications :
Master degree in health communications, public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field.
5-8 years of experience in relevant areas in social and behavioral change communication for health, with preference given to WASH/nutrition expertise.
A minimum of 3-year experience in asupervisory or management position of health, agriculture, or sanitation projects.
Experience in designing and implementing in health projects, preferably Nutrition and/or Water/Sanitation that include a strong behavior change communication component is required.
Experience in providing technical assistance to project/government staff working on Social Behavioral Change Communications projects desired.
Experience in monitoring and evaluation of health projects and operational research strongly preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency with using Microsoft Office Suite required.
Able to analyze and interpret data, identify errors, and prepare reports.
Able to problem solve and develop and implement corrective action as needed.
Familiarity with communications research and appropriate methodologies for behavior change program evaluation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Dari; Pashto fluency is highly desired.
