Afghanistan: Anti-corruption advisor
Chemonics seeks an anticorruption advisor for USAID’s $40-$50 million Afghanistan’s Measure for AccouNtability and Transparency (AMANAT) project with the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. This five-year project will reduce and prevent corruption in public services by strengthening Afghan non-governmental institutions, supporting select Afghan government institutions with technical and financial assistance, and building local civil society organizations’ capacity. This position will be based in Afghanistan. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide strategic vision and core support to implement effective anticorruption activities
- Assist Chemonics and partners in identifying the most appropriate domestic and international stakeholders at all levels within civil society and the government
- Develop effective strategies for engaging partners to advocate for and implement reforms that can eliminate or reduce corrupt practices
- Assess project effectiveness on an ongoing basis and make recommendations for improvement
- Provide management supervision to local staff members
Qualifications:
- J.D., L.L.M., Ph.D., or M.A. in management, international development, or a related field of study preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience working on anticorruption development efforts, including designing activities and understanding international best practices, preferably with experience working in challenging security environments
- Demonstrated experience in institutional capacity development and working effectively with a diverse range of counterparts, including high-level government officials and civil society organizations, on corruption issues
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work with senior Afghan officials
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Strong written and spoken English
