(AFG-KABUL) Fire Inspector


Job Summary


At Fire Inspector, he/she is responsible for to perform fire prevention and inspection duties designed to detect and reduce or eliminate fire hazards in a high fire expectancy area. Provides fire prevention safety training for the base population.


Principal Accountabilities


(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)


  • Performs regular and periodic fire protection inspections for all areas of the installation where the potential severity and expectancy for fire is high and involves hazards that are difficult to recognize and, once identified, require advanced, and sometimes innovative methods to reduce or eliminate them

  • Inspects, tests, and corrects deficiencies on a variety of fire protection systems, many of which are complex or designed for a specific operation or hazardous condition

  • Reviews engineering plans and specifications for new construction, alteration, and extension of existing structures

  • Develops and maintains a variety of documentation such as fire prevention inspection schedules and facilities files on assigned facilities

  • Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment

Knowledge & Skills


  • The work of this position requires a SECRET Security clearance.

Experience & Education


  • A minimum of one year of experience in similar position, as described in the following specialized and general fire prevention experience description.

  • Specialized experience is defined as: Experience of all phases of fire department operations, i.e. structural, crash/fire/rescue, hazardous material and Basic Life Support medical services.

  • Experience in fire prevention, fire protection, emergency protection services and environmental protection in order to plan, direct and supervise shift work to support the installation.

  • Personnel must meet the following qualifications:

  • Must maintain a valid State driver’s license and an Emergency Vehicle Operators certification.

  • Must have and be able to maintain the following Firefighter Certifications: Instructor I, Inspector I and II, Hazardous Material Awareness

  • The position is subject to immediate recall and extended shifts during emergencies.

  • Employee is required to report for duty during Natural Disasters or such emergency situations.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
