Position: Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) / K9 Handler Location: Kabul, Afghanistan FLSA Status: Full Time Position Summary: The Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) / K9 Handler is responsible for the recognition of IED’s and explosive materials and ensuring the safety of all personnel while assigned to their area of duty. Essential Functions:
- Detect explosive materials and devices
- Prevent the unauthorized introduction of explosive devices or matter
- Maintain K9 training records to meet contract requirements
- Perform other functions as directed by the Government

- The contract requires you to be a U.S. Citizen – must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Level Security Clearance
- Certified in accordance with North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA), national/State/provincial military or law enforcement agency standards as a working K9 Handler.
- A minimum of:
- Two years of service as a Military or Law Enforcement K9 Handler
- One additional year of security-related experience.
- Experience can be gained in the employ of any national, State/Provincial, Local or commercial entities providing high threat protective services
- Able to recognize K9 diseases, be familiar with hygiene requirements, and know the physical condition of the K-9
- English language proficiency (minimum Level III)
- All K9 Handlers will have completed a minimum 3 hours block of instruction to include: Recognition of IED’s and explosives materials – This block will be both generic and specific to their country of assignment.
- Safe explosive handling/ Explosives storage protocols/ Explosives transportation protocols
- Training in protocols to preclude cross contamination of explosive odors used in training and testing
- Testing procedures as required by the client, Phase 1 and Phase 2 Testing
- Phase 1 Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms Odor Recognition Test (NORT)
- Phase 2 North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) certification test
- Obtain and maintain weapons qualifications
- Must successfully pass all required courses specified by the client

Physical Demands: The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a long period of time. The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions.
