(AFG-KANDAHAR) Power Generation Mechanic


Job Summary


The Power Generation Mechanic independently performs maintenance and repairs on power generation units and related equipment.


Principal Accountabilities(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)


  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace power generator systems and parts

  • Order and receive service and replacement parts for power generators

  • Coordinate and schedule regular generator services and refueling missions

  • Monitor loads and move/replace generators according to load requirements

  • Maintain generator and property movement logs and create the Lost, Theft, Damaged, Destroyed (LTDD) and incident reports

  • Inspect and maintain fuel tanks, fuel burners, and electrical wiring

  • Walk through new and existing construction sites to perform power assessments

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills


  • Ability to interpret and apply manufacturer repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, and diagnostic codes

  • Basic knowledge of a variety of engines, power generation, electrical safety, and engine maintenance

  • Ability to perform maintenance on coolant, oil, and fuel systems

  • Knowledge of electricity principles and voltage, amperage, frequency, and poser factors

  • Skill in performing extended load tests by using math formulas to meet specifications

  • Additional knowledge and skill requirements may vary by assignment

Experience & Education


  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a mechanic role including repair and replacement of diesel generators, generator electrical systems, and generator electronic systems

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Prefer valid driver’s license

  • Prefer graduate of an accredited diesel school

  • Additional experience and education requirements may vary by assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable

  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions

  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions

Travel


  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
