Director - Programs - Development Transformations - Washington, DC

Development Transformations (DT) seeks to hire a Director to oversee current and future programs focused in the areas of civil society, governance, and transition programming. The position is based in Washington, DC.

Duties include: leading and managing a team of program support staff, overseeing US Government funded contracts and cooperative agreements, coordinating proposal development, maintaining strong relationships with government and company clients and partners, and conducting business development.


Required Tasks


Manage proposal/task order development both internally and externally with partners and sub-contractors;


Oversee and manage cooperative agreements/contracts/task orders and programs;


Build proposal teams and serve as capture manager on new business efforts to include substantial involvement on program design and in technical areas


Actively initiate and/or participate in the development and writing of international development concept papers and proposals;


Liaise and maintain collaborative relationships with partners and clients, including development organizations, USAID, Department of State, NGOs, European donors, foundations, and partner organizations;


Travel to the field to provide short-term support and oversight of project staff;


Manage staff responsible for budgets and expenditures for grants and contracts.


Required Experience and Skills


Minimum of 10 years’ relevant work experience in international development or related field;


Strong management experience as demonstrated by successful performance as a Chief of Party or Deputy Chief of Party or similar role required;


Masters degree, preferably in International Relations, International Development, Human Rights, Security Studies, Conflict Studies, or related subject required;


Experience with proposal development for USAID or other relevant U.S. Government agencies required;


Long-term field experience working outside the US, particularly in developing countries, required.


Knowledge of the Middle East, Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia, and/or other regions strongly preferred;


Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with US and foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, partners, and clients;


Excellent oral communication and writing skills to effectively present information to partners, clients, and potential donors;


Capacity to work both independently and as a member of a team;

This is a senior level position with the firm and part of the expanded management team. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude and exceptional organizational skills focused on growing and strengthening the business. Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is eligible for additional compensation based on firm and individual performance.
