(AFG-KABUL) R/W Avionics Mechanic


Job Summary


The R/W Avionics Mechanic works closely with other mechanics and maintenance personnel on the modification, troubleshooting, inspection and repair of all aircraft associated electronics and avionics to include but not limited to: electronic fuel quantity indicating systems, electronic fuel systems, engine and utility indicating systems, electrical systems, communications, and navigation systems.


Principal Accountabilities


  • Report on work order status to the Lead Mechanic.

  • Use special test equipment and procedures peculiar to each system to locate and isolate defective units and interconnecting wiring.

  • Remove, bench check, repair, adjust, and install serviceable components and conduct operational systems checks to ensure normal operation.

  • Ensure all work is done according to specification, regulation and company policy.

  • Ensure that all tools and associated equipment are 100% accounted for.

  • Respond to work orders in a timely manner with emphasis on operations support.

  • Able to communicate effectively and work well as a member of a team; assists with other duties as required to support the customer and mission.

  • Work to help meet a minimum 80% Fleet Operational Readiness Rate.

  • Conduct oneself professionally through appearance and conduct.

  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills


  • Must have an FCC license or equivalent.

  • A&P; license preferred

  • Must have OEM certification.

  • Ability to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including working in extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills

Experience & Education


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Associates Degree in related field preferred.

  • Five (5) or more year’s avionics experience on fixed-wing and/or rotary-wing aircraft.

  • Minimum of two (2) years Avionics experience (Level 1, 5-1), six (6) years experience (Level 2, 5-2), or 8 years experience (Level 3, 5-3) on Mi-8/Mi-17 aircraft.

  • One (1) year of full-time field service in the last 3 years.

  • Previous experience in maintaining general aviation avionics and electrical systems and associated components, including navigation systems, HF, VHF, UHF and FM radios, ICS, ILS, aircraft electrical systems, and aircraft instrument and lighting systems.

  • One (1) or more years’ experience in either the OEF or OIF theaters of operations preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • Must be able to withstand extreme temperatures and environments while working in field conditions.

  • Must be able to lift 90 pounds to waist level and 75 pounds to shoulder height.

Travel


  • Must be able to travel to and between remote location(s) in austere or inhospitable high stress environments, and work with minimal direct supervision.
