(AFG-KANDAHAR) Recovery Operator
Job Summary
The Recovery Operator is responsible for the recovery of vehicles, equipment, and related assets for the program.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
- Perform road side or on-site emergency troubleshooting and repairs on stalled vehicle, equipment, and related accessories
- Estimate lift load limit of wrecker to ensure proper and safe operation of vehicle
- Carry out required recovery procedure to tow or transport vehicle or equipment to designated repair facility
- Perform all repair and recovery operations in accordance with technical manuals, commercial manuals, safety, and relevant host country regulations
- Recover stalled vehicle or equipment using appropriate commercial and military recovery vehicles and bring it over to designated commercial or government repair facility
- Maintain awareness of all US installation locations within area of operations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiar with roll-over vehicle accidents and corrective measures to upright
- Knowledge and skill in troubleshooting all automotive components such as brake systems, drive train, engine, tire changing, and emergency under-chassis repairs
- Knowledge of mechanical and hydraulics systems, load-limit, operation, and accessory equipment of roll-back carriers and tow trucks
- Knowledge of roadways, traffic rules, and driving patterns
- Ability to assess possible damage risks to inoperable equipment that is being towed or transported
- Ability to safely and effectively operate hydraulic equipment and power winches
- Good oral communications skills and collaborative work style, fostering cooperation and teamwork
- Additional knowledge/skill requirements may be required by assignment or contract
Experience & Education
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in automotive maintenance with at least one (1) year in vehicle recovery
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Qualified to operate rollbacks and/or 10 to 40 ton commercial wreckers
- Kuwait Candidates: Same as above plus qualified to operate M984A1 truck wrecker
- Possess and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL), Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) heavy license, European Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) license, or equivalent with a good driving record
- Additional experience/education may be required by assignment or contract
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
