Aviation Ground Safety/Hazmat Senior Engineer- Afghanistan - Lockheed Martin - Fort Campbell, KY

This position is defined as Strategic Review – Aligned to IS&GS.

This position is in Afghanistan for a Ground Safety/HazMat Manager and reports to the program Aviation Safety Officer and the Sr. Program Manager. Duties include:


Develop the Ground Operating Procedures (GOP) and HazMat Procedures in accordance with (IAW) DCMA Instruction 8210 and obtain concurrence for implementation from the Government Flight Representative (GFR).


Manage the ground safety and HazMat programs which comply with AR 95-20, DA Pamphlet 385-90 and Afghan Ground Procedures for approval by US Government (USG) Safety Representatives.


Manage and participate in all safety meetings.


Participate in the review and analysis of safety related incidents at the request of the GFR and/or the Program Manager.


Maintain a good working relationship with customer personnel and be aware of and respect cultural differences at the host location.


Perform other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

Secret security clearance is required


Bachelor of Science (Master of Science or Doctorate Ph.D. preferred) degree in engineering OR mathematics/physical science degree with an EIT Certificate. Ten (10) years of direct experience in a relevant engineering activity is required.


Must have past or current designation as a Ground Safety and HazMat Manager, Specialist, Officer or NCO


Must have attended an approved military or civilian safety school or training program with certification of course completion


Must be knowledgeable and conversant in military safety, standardization and technical inspections


Must possess a full understanding of US DOD military ground safety operating and hazmat procedures in accordance with (IAW) DCMA Instruction 8210


Must be knowledgeable of Flight/Ground Operating Procedures (FGOP)


Experience managing ground safety and HazMat programs which comply with AR 95-20, DA Pamphlet 385-90


Must be able to pass/qualify all CENTCOM CRC medical and training requirements


Desired skills

Military deployment experience is highly desired and deployment experience to the CENTCOM region is desired


Military deployment experience is highly desirable and deployment experience to the CENTCOM region


Work experience in austere environments such as Afghanistan


Understanding and accepting local languages, customs and traditions (to be able to work with local customs, transport systems and language interpretation)


A master’s degree from a certified college a plus.


Bilingual in English and Dari or Pashtu a plus.
