(AFG-KANDAHAR) Light Armored Vehicle Technician
Job Summary
The Light Armored Vehicle Technician is responsible for performing technical inspections, diagnosing, repairing and servicing as required by manufacturers specifications for a variety of various vehicles and equipment arranging from but not limited to hull, glass, and other protective parts for automobiles, SUV’s, and heavy trucks.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)
- Performs inspections, diagnostics, repair, services and rebuild of components and assemblies
- Determines serviceability of vehicle systems, assemblies or subassemblies and the need for repair
- Analyzes malfunctions by visual and auditory examination or through the use of test diagnostic equipment
- Repairs, adjusts and overhauls/replaces major assemblies or subassemblies such as engine mechanical, electrical, air-conditioning, fuel, emission, power train, brake, steering and suspension
- Removes and disassembles gasoline or diesel engines and components
- Repairs components by replacing worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned parts
- Reassembles, adjusts and tests repaired units for proper operations
- Performs preventive and special maintenance. Uses technical publications to maintain vehicles to prescribed manufacturers maintenance schedules
- Performs special inspections and maintenance on vehicles requiring corrosion control, storage, shipment and winterizing
- Properly annotates all maintenance performed on prescribed forms for data collection purposes
- Adheres to all established safety policies and standards to include identification, use and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste
- Reads and follows current policies and procedures as outlined in all SOP’s applicable to assigned work location
- Participates in the validation and certification of all soft armor product changes in accordance with manufacture specification for safety and security
- Conducts and approves all repairs are compliant with safety and regulatory standards
- Reports any quality concerns to leadership
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and the proper safety precautions involved in maintaining motorized equipment and light and heavy vehicles
- Skilled in the use and operation of motorized equipment
- Ability to estimate material requirements for individual projects
- Ability to develop and implement work schedules
- Ability to understand and work from manuals and specifications
- Ability of provide guidance and direction in the safe repair of motorized equipment
- Ability to prioritize tasks and assign workers as appropriate
- Oversee and perform maintenance on light and heavy duty vehicles and motorized equipment
- Ability to follow oral instructions
- Ability to work effectively in an unpleasant working environment
Experience & Education
- High School Diploma
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in the repair of light and heavy duty vehicles
- Proven professional or military training in inspection/replacement of armor/up-armored vehicles
- MVAC certification preferred
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push, and pull
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds
- Assist in lifting up to one hundred (100) pounds
- Able to work in both inside and outside conditions and be exposed to dust, fumes, and gases from running engines and motors
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Able to travel domestically and internationally
Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
