(AFG-KABUL) Fuel Operator
Job Summary
The Fuel Operator performs fuel service operations to manage the reception, storage, and shipping of bulk or packaged petroleum-based products.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
- Load and unload a fuel truck, safely implementing precautions associated with hazards of transporting and issuing petroleum products
- Receive, store, account for, document, and issue fuel product in accordance with specified standard operating procedures and military guidance
- Perform hot and cold refueling of various types of military helicopters and equipment
- Perform operational and preventive maintenance checks on relevant fuel equipment and vehicles in accordance with standards
- Maintain vehicle logs and submit daily vehicle deficiencies report
- Gauge tanks daily for estimated fuel amount in accordance with requirements
- Observe and follow all safety rules, regulations, and operating procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and reporting delays or accidents
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
- Courteous, customer-oriented communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of petroleum operations and related quality assurance/quality control standards and policies
- Skill in sampling and basic testing procedures for petroleum products
- Skill in properly dealing with hazardous chemicals, petroleum products, environmental spill prevention, and operational recovery planning
- Additional knowledge/skills requirements may vary by assignment
Experience & Education
- Minimum one (1) year of experience operating fuel distribution points or terminals
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Additional experience/education requirements may vary by assignment
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Ability to wear PPE and perform all duties including lifting up to 70 pounds, climbing fuel tanks up to 40 feet high, and climbing on tank trucks
- No allergies to petroleum products
- Ability to perform duties in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, and rain) and work long hours
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Completion of a formal course, military or civilian, in refueling technology and/or maintenance. Certification for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) or equivalent training is required.
