Theses internship opportunities run from, June 6 – August 18; Monday – Thursday; 9:00am – 5:00pm. These positions require a minimum commitment of 4 days/ week and consistent attendance to ensure that projects are seen to completion.

POSITION SUMMARY

There are four (4) internships available in these departments in the following areas:

1- Global Partnerships, Asia/Eurasia/ Middle East/ Africa

The Asia/Eurasia/Middle East and Africa Partnerships division is within the Global Programs department of AmeriCares. We support health care and social service programs in a large network of countries spanning nearly the entire globe, and focus in countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lebanon, Liberia, Malawi, the Philippines, Romania, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uzbekistan and Vietnam to deliver lifesaving medicines and medical supplies to national hospitals, non-profit clinics, and rural health outposts throughout the region. Our programs combine gift-in-kind donations with financial grants and training opportunities in order to build local capacity to address some of the most pressing health care issues, including: disaster management, maternal and neonatal survival, child nutrition, infectious disease outbreaks, and prevention and control of chronic conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The AmeriCares internship in Global Partnerships provides an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate student interested in humanitarian aid operations in the region. Our five-person team manages a diverse and challenging portfolio that offers a very substantive work experience for an intern.

The position is structured such that the intern is engaged in daily workflow by taking on assignments of immediate importance while also managing longer-term projects that will help strengthen our efficiency and effectiveness. In addition, throughout the duration of the internship, the intern will participate in an institution-wide group project along with other summer interns.

2 – Global Partnerships, Latin America & Caribbean

The Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Partnerships team is one of three regional teams within the Global Partnerships department. Each team serves the regions in which they work by coordinating with in-country partners to design and implement programs, deliver in-kind medical aid and provide disaster relief. In LAC the core of our work involves partnering with 14 local and international non-governmental organizations in ten countries to distribute medicines and medical supplies to national hospitals, non-profit clinics, social service organizations and rural health outposts.

The LAC Partnerships internship provides an exciting opportunity for undergraduates interested in humanitarian aid operations in the region. Our three person team manages the largest regional medical aid portfolio within Global Partnerships. The significant workload this entails consistently offers a substantive work experience for our interns. The position is structured such that the intern is engaged in our team’s daily workflow by both taking on assignments of immediate importance and by also focusing on lengthier assignments that contribute to improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our work.

3- U.S. Medical Assistance Program, (2)

With the support of generous corporate and financial donors, AmeriCares largest program, Global Medical Assistance, provides medicines, medical supplies and other relief on an ongoing basis to hospitals, clinics and community health programs in over 40 countries, including the United States. The program helps our health care partners deliver quality care by providing aid to fill critical resource gaps, including essential products that are unavailable or financially inaccessible.

In the U.S., AmeriCares supports more than 825 free clinics, community health centers, health departments, charitable pharmacies and social service organizations that serve low-income and uninsured/ underinsured patients. As the largest provider of donated medicines in the country, AmeriCares delivered $117 million in aid to its U.S. partners last year alone.

The U.S. Medical Assistance Program will offer two internship opportunities ;

1- The U.S. Program Intern will provide support to the U.S. team in the areas of partner outreach and management, data management, research and reporting.

2- Intern will provide support to Dr. Julie Darnell of the University of Illinois at Chicago in the replication of the National Survey of Free and Charitable Clinics, as well as ongoing support to the U.S. Program team as requested.

Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES

While the responsibilities for each intern will be dependent on the position they’re assigned, approximately 40 percent of the intern’s time will be spent on longer-term projects, while the other 60 percent will focus on short-term assignments. The intern will also participate in a group project, working alongside their fellow interns on an assignment aligned with the AmeriCares mission.
