Overview:
Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects at the Consulate in Herat and other locations in Afghanistan. Travel to/from Dubai as required. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time.
Responsibilities:
Working Environment: The incumbent will work in a traditional office setting as well as construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites. Work Schedule: This position works 10 hours/day 6 days a week minimum Major Duties and Responsibilities: – Provide a full range of plumbing services to the embassy and all satellite sites under the direction of the AEK Plumbing Supervisor including installation and repair of pipes, fitting, fixtures and drainage systems. Specific Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited to: – Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes; studies building plans and working drawings to determine required work tools and equipment, and sequence of installations. – Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening the structure resulting from pipe installation; locates and marks pipe and connection position and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob. Uses hand and power tools to cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings; uses pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe-threading machine – to cut and thread pipes; uses pipe bending machine to bend pipe to required angles. – Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes made from metals or non-metals; joins pipe using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints; fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to ensure system is not leaking. – Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners; repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. – Maintains pool equipment including sand filters, pumps and accessory equipment, chemical feed pumps, tubing and control system. – Assembles, installs, maintains and repairs pipes, fittings, insulation, valves and associated items for HVAC hot and chilled water piping systems including welding as required. – Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Detailed description of experience, training, and other requirements for job performance: Experience: – Experience in an OCONUS environment. – Able to proactively analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications and plumbing codes. – He/she will have knowledge of the occupational hazards of the plumbing trade and related safety precautions and considerable skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and equipment. – Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred. – Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and prepare daily reports and work orders. – Ability to work effectively with multi-cultural workforce. – – Must have good organizational and communication skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently. – Previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus. Education: – Must have at least a high school diploma or GED. Language Requirement: – Must be able to read, write speak and comprehend English.
