(AFG-KANDAHAR) Fire Inspector


Job Summary

The Fire Inspector plans, coordinates, and implements a comprehensive inspection program of all base facilities in assigned area to detect and eliminate hazards.


Principal Accountabilities


  • Plan and administer the fire prevention education program

  • Develop base fire regulations, training programs, and fire hazard assessment schedules

  • Review construction and modification plans, confer with engineers, provide technical/functional assistance on fire prevention and building design criteria

  • Inspect building structures and locations of fire extinguishers to detect and correct fire hazards, determine compliance with fire safety laws and ordinances, and maintain records of them

  • Educate the public regarding fire prevention and fire warden duties

  • Investigate complaints and answer questions regarding fire hazards and violation of fire safety regulations

  • Participate in fire drills and classes and prepare required reports

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills


  • Knowledge of fire prevention and fire suppression methods, safety principles pertaining to fire protection, and fire hazards common to commercial, industrial, and residential structures

  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of pumping and all other types of fire fighting and rescue equipment

  • Ability to drive heavy fire apparatus in response to emergency incidents, operate and maintain pumping apparatus, and prepare reports and recommendations

Experience & Education


  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Fire Inspector

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Prefer Associate’s Degree

  • International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), DOD, or National Pro-Board Certifications as Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor I, and Hazardous Materials Awareness

  • Valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable

  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions

  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions

Travel


  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
