(AFG-KANDAHAR) Fire Inspector
Job Summary
The Fire Inspector plans, coordinates, and implements a comprehensive inspection program of all base facilities in assigned area to detect and eliminate hazards.
Principal Accountabilities
- Plan and administer the fire prevention education program
- Develop base fire regulations, training programs, and fire hazard assessment schedules
- Review construction and modification plans, confer with engineers, provide technical/functional assistance on fire prevention and building design criteria
- Inspect building structures and locations of fire extinguishers to detect and correct fire hazards, determine compliance with fire safety laws and ordinances, and maintain records of them
- Educate the public regarding fire prevention and fire warden duties
- Investigate complaints and answer questions regarding fire hazards and violation of fire safety regulations
- Participate in fire drills and classes and prepare required reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of fire prevention and fire suppression methods, safety principles pertaining to fire protection, and fire hazards common to commercial, industrial, and residential structures
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of pumping and all other types of fire fighting and rescue equipment
- Ability to drive heavy fire apparatus in response to emergency incidents, operate and maintain pumping apparatus, and prepare reports and recommendations
Experience & Education
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Fire Inspector
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Prefer Associate’s Degree
- International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), DOD, or National Pro-Board Certifications as Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor I, and Hazardous Materials Awareness
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
