(AFG-KANDAHAR) Electrician
Job Summary
The Electrician performs a broad range of electrical maintenance, repair, and construction support, also incorporating inspection and testing of distribution systems, and circuit fault finding.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
- Identify Life, Health, and Safety (LHS) issues and repair circuit faults on electrical systems
- Install, maintain, repair, or replace electrical equipment and systems in strict accordance with applicable codes and standards
- Identify proper materials for use on specific installations and complete maintenance and repair records
- Follow all safety rules and procedures including wearing required personal safety equipment
- Oversee electrical work of assigned employees to ensure compliance with standards
- Ensure electrical tools and equipment are properly maintained in a safe operating condition and work areas are clean and hazard free
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Capable of maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical distribution systems in accordance with applicable standards
- Knowledge of applicable codes such as National Electrical Code (NEC), British Standard (BS), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and/or International Building Codes (IBC), with ability to pass an electrical trade test
- Knowledge and skill in the safe operation and application of instrumentation to include circuit testers, power analyzers, ground rod resistance meters, ground fault loop impedance testers, and residual current device testers
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints, schematics, instructions, and other technical documentation
- Ability to complete accurate and timely maintenance and work records
- Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
- Additional knowledge and skill requirements may vary by assignment
Experience & Education
- Minimum four (4) years of experience as an electrician
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing motors, starters, transformers, residual current devices, and over current protective devices
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Expat:
- Valid Journeyman Electrician License (or higher) or proof of training/competency or certificate of completion from Electrical Apprenticeship program
- FN-A:
- Completion of Electrical Apprenticeship and minimum two (2) years of relevant Technical Trade School with certification or equivalent
- FN-E:
- Completion of Electrical Apprenticeship or relevant Technical School certification or equivalent
- FN-UK:
- Valid Joint Industry Board (JIB) Electro-technical Certification Scheme (ECS)-graded Electrician with current BS 7671 accreditation or equivalent
- Prefer experience in facilities maintenance and fire alarm system installations and repairs
- Additional experience and education requirements may vary by assignment
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Physically fit to stand and bend for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds
- Mandatory use of appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
