(AFG-KANDAHAR) Welder
Job Summary
The Welder welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors, and generators, according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
- Weld equipment and perform fabricating, fitting, sheet metal installation, vehicular body work, and some machinist work to meet specifications and required standards
- Weld metal parts together using gas welding, brazing, or any combination of arc welding processes
- Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and increase size of metal parts
- Position and clamp together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding
- Prepare equipment for painting
- Locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch
- Perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, wash rack detail, and tire shop assignments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and layout
- Knowledge and skill in Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and stick welding, brazing, and soldering
- Knowledge of aluminum and stainless steel Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also referred to as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding
- Proficient in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) structural steel and aluminum welding
- Additional knowledge/skills requirements may vary by assignment
Experience & Education
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in Journeyman Metal Trades
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current Welding Certification
- Certification in GMAW and/or SMAW and /or GTAW
- Additional experience/education requirements may vary by assignment
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
