CACI has an excellent opportunity for an experienced, self-directed, virtual management / SAN Systems Engineer. This position is in support of a Department of Defense (DOD) organization OCONUS in Afghanistan. This position involves the design, configuration, implementation, operational management, and troubleshooting of VMware products including: ESXi 4.1, VMware vCenter, VMware SRM, vCenter Update Manager, and distributed virtual switches.

Specifically the virtual management / SANS Systems Engineer will be responsible for supporting systems and applications on a geographically dispersed Windows 2008 and 2012 network with multiple types of servers and server applications. The required engineering and administration support functions include: deploying shared storage to a vShpere 4.x environment including provisioning of iSCSI LUNS, FCoE, and NFS shares; managing Windows 2003 and 2008 based Active Directory systems in virtual environments, and Exchange 2003, 2007, and 2010 in virtual environments; creating, managing, and troubleshooting virtual machines; providing statistics on virtual system performance including hardware status and capacity management; and managing SAN replication and snapshots; identifying possible virtual system configuration issues and proactively performing maintenance to improve system performance; and managing system hardware including routine maintenance and RMA/replacement of failed hardware; and providing virtual networking guidelines and standards.

The Engineer will be directly responsible for the effective and efficient operation and interconnectivity of a Department of Defense Network and will execute the actions required to correct deficiencies or shortcomings and to improve system performance and efficiency. The System Engineer will be responsible for performing and overseeing the management of Windows system administrator functions supporting a various virtual servers using vCenter servers. The System engineer will provide senior level knowledge and Tier 3 support to the customer and their components to include Tier 3 infrastructure, design, implementation, troubleshooting, and support that builds, configures, and administers several hundred servers in their area of operation. Additionally, the Engineer will provide remote support and/or travel to various OCONUS customer servers and sites as required.

The ideal candidate will have experience and a strong engineering background in Virtualization Design, Migration and Implementation. The successful candidate must be able to communicate clearly and succinctly both written and orally, and present products and ideas in a business-like manner. The candidate will be required to work in dynamic fast paced environments that require team interaction and coordination of efforts. The candidate must be experienced in interfacing with both client managers and system users.

Requirements:



  • Be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI)




  • DOD 8570 IAT III (CISSP or equivalent)




  • Must be willing/able to work OCONUS for minimum of one year




  • Must be able to complete and pass all CRC screening requirements




  • Must have experience with and be knowledgeable about VMware products




  • Recommend best-practice solutions for server technologies




  • End-to-end monitoring of application performance and availability




  • Provide technical leadership and cross-training to peers in areas of expertise




  • Act as a resource to team members, participates in team and professional meetings




  • Coaches and provides input as to the needs of Infrastructure staff;




  • Provide 3rd line technical support as needed




  • 6+ years of experience in Systems Engineering work with demonstrated increased responsibility




  • Professional and responsible system administration of Microsoft Windows servers




  • Experience and a strong engineering background in Microsoft Active Directory Design and Domain Name Services (DNS)




  • vCenter / VCP-DCV experience




  • Effective communications throughout all levels of operational command




  • Ability to document system process and architecture

    Certifications:




  • Professional certification that meets or exceeds DoD 8570.01. IAM III (CISSP or equivalent)




  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Server Infrastructure or equivalent certification




  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) in server administration for 2008/2012




  • Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA)




  • VMware Certified Professional 5 – Data Center Virtualization (VCP5-DCV) and/or VMware Certified Design Expert 5 – Data Center Virtualization (VCDX5-DCV)



Education / Experience Requirements:



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (technology field is highly desired) and 6 or more years of software/systems administration experience are required.




  • Associate and two years of additional experience (6 or more year’s total) is also acceptable.



Desired:



  • Top secret clearance




  • Automation using Microsoft PowerShell, VBScript, or batch files




  • Adaptable to changing circumstances and operational needs




  • Understanding of Department of Defense Military standards




  • Documentation experience using Microsoft Visio or similar products.




  • ITIL v3 Foundation Certification
