(AFG-KABUL) Staff Officer, Information Operations Mentor, to Advise and Assist Cell SW


Job Summary


Information Operations (IO) Mentor, to Advise and Assist Cell SW (AAC SW) Staff Officer serves as IO Mentor to 215th Corps from the advise and assist cell team and its activities thereof throughout the Area of Responsibility (AOR).


Principal Accountabilities


  • Serves as IO Mentor to 215th Corps from the Advise and Assist Cell SW (AAC SW) Team and its activities thereof throughout the Area of Responsibility (AOR).

  • Primary duty location is Shorab Annex, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Alternate duty locations, as determined by AAC SW, may be Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan or HQ RS, Kabul, Afghanistan.

  • Train and assist the Corps personnel in synchronizing and coordinating offensive and defensive information related capabilities (IRC) with the overall operation and analysis of theater-operational and national strategic information and recommending activities as necessary.

  • Develop IO battle drills; train and assist Corps and Afghanistan National Defense Security Force (ANDSF) Afghanistan Information Dissemination Operations (AIDO) personnel in implementation and planning while executing IO battle drills, coordinating IRCs, plans, and related duties for the AAC SW Commander.

  • Train and assist Corps and ANDSF AIDO personnel in techniques to develop and maintain Situational Awareness of all Combat Operations and the synchronization of current and future IRC activities in support of those operations to include coordinating with other Afghan agencies and the Corps and ANDSF Coordination Center.

  • Train and assist Corps and ANDSF AIDO personnel in the synchronizing and coordinating offensive and defensive IRCs with the overall campaign and analysis of theater-operational and national-strategic information and recommending adjustment as necessary.

  • Train and assist Corps Public Affairs personnel in the synchronization and coordination of Corps public affairs activities and media relations.

  • Maintains adequate levels of supervision with Corps AIDO Staff to ensure that the accurate level and consistency in the flow of information to the Advise and Assist Directorate, AAC SW, RS HQ, and ANDSF is maintained. This information should be accurate, full scoped, and consistent with the appropriate level of the target audience: AAC SW, RS and ANDSF Senior Leadership.

  • Coordinates with Corps AIDO Operations to validate and ensure that information operations reports provided by Corps to AAD and RS HQ are accurate.

  • Coordinates with Corps Public Affair Officer (PAO) staff and regional government Public Affairs staff to ensure synchronization of activities in support of ANDSF missions.

  • Incumbent provides formal and informal instruction, including the conduct of IO exercises, and practical exercises (through an interpreter) within the Corps.

  • Establishes and maintains complete daily visibility on the duties and responsibilities of all 215 Corps AIDO staff, to include the assessment, progress and evaluation of the staff performance and products on a daily basis.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills


  • Familiar with NATO planning tools and planning processes. Knowledge of MoD Afghanistan procedures is a plus.

  • NATO, Command and General Staff College, or National Staff Officer’s Course – equivalent.

  • Understanding of the Military Decision Making Process

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Must demonstrate creative problem solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team equally well.

  • Ability to implement staffing procedures and prior experience assisting and mentoring at senior levels.

  • Familiar with training capabilities, curriculum planning, capacity building, and resourcing.

Experience & Education


  • Must have a final (Not Interim) DoD Secret Level Security Clearance before deployment and maintain that clearance.

  • Previous experience at the 05 level or above with significant experience in advising operations at the general officer level.

  • 8-10 years’ experience within a joint, interagency, multinational environment. Experience in Operations Centers at the Brigade or higher level.

  • Brigade, Division, or Higher Staff experience or other primary staff responsibility for Operations planning and execution in a Brigade or Division Tactical Operations Center, Division or Corps Main command Post or higher.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • Must pass all medical and fitness requirements directed by US Central Command (CENTCOM) in order to deploy.

  • Must be able to operate in harsh and austere conditions of Afghanistan

Travel


  • Must be capable of daily travel in and around Kabul as well as to locations throughout Afghanistan.
