(AFG-KANDAHAR) Solid Waste Supervisor
Job*Summary*
Responsible for administering the functions of the Solid Waste programs to assure the provision of cost-effective, environmentally sound solid waste systems.
Principal Accountabilities
- Responsible for the supervision of all operations of the Solid Waste System including scheduling and management of all employees
- Completing the daily reports required
- Interfaces with solid waste hauling contractors to oversee safe and efficient transport
- Plans, schedules and supervises a work unit of employees who provide collection of contained or uncontained refuse, or who provide transfer or landfilling of solid waste
- Investigates and reports on industrial and equipment accidents
- Interprets and explains departmental policies, procedures and programs to customers
- Participates in supplemental budget recommendations and projections
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
Knowledge & Skills
- Effective supervisory practices and team building techniques
- Knowledge of solid waste management practices, including household hazardous waste and recycling
- Knowledge of hazardous waste response procedures
- Knowledge of customer service practices and cash handling procedures
- Knowledge of modern office equipment and business practices
- Ability to perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others
- Ability to identify and analyze problems, develop and present solutions, and oversee implementation
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements
- Ability to produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts with proper English sentence construction, punctuation and grammar
- Work cooperatively with other employees and the public
- Comprehends and makes inferences from written material
- Review and check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
Experience & Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum three (3) years experience with at least two (2) years experience in a supervisory role
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
