(AFG-KANDAHAR) Fire Crew Chief
Job Summary
The* Fire Crew Chief* leads a team to provide quality resource protection and fire fighting support for structural, aircraft, and other fire-related hazardous operations.
Principal Accountabilities
- Serve as lead crew member at a site to provide quality resource protection and fire fighting support for structural, aircraft, and other fire-related hazardous operations in accordance with Department of Defense (DOD), contract, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards
- Perform fire suppression, rescue, and prevention activities as directed by senior fire officer to ensure adequate response and minimize loss of life and property
- Ensure assigned fire fighting personnel, vehicles, and equipment are operational and available
- Direct and control fire attack, confinement, salvage, overhaul, ventilation, and rescue activities to include first responder care, using logic and reasoning to identify options, solutions, or approaches to situations
- Assess and document initial conditions of emergency scene and provide information to supervisor for required reports
- Direct crew members and participate in the care and maintenance of fire fighting equipment, fire station, and surrounding grounds
- Resolve minor administrative and personnel issues and refer major situations to senior fire officer
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Fluently read, write, speak, and understand English to interpret and explain codes, plans, provide training, and write reports
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
- Ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Experience & Education
- Minimum six (6) years of experience in fire services
- Prefer Associate’s Degree in fire science management, emergency management, public administration, or associated discipline
- DOD, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or National Pro-Board Certifications as Fire Fighter I and II, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, and HazMat Operations; Airport Fire Fighter if applicable to assigned location
- Prefer First Responder and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) qualified
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
