(AFG-KANDAHAR) Environmental Supervisor


Job Summary


The Environmental Supervisor supervises a team of environmental and HAZMAT personnel on numerous sites throughout the area of responsibility.


Principal Accountabilities


(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)


  • Oversee the Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Materials Management Process for regional program sites.

  • Organize and track daily environmental, hazardous materials and hazardous waste activities of the HAZMAT Department personnel in assigned region of responsibility.

  • Supervise a team in the removal and disposal of hazardous materials and prepare worksite to ensure safety during removal.

  • Assist as needed in decontamination operations.

  • Train and mentor department personnel on the proper procedures to operate Hazardous Waste Accumulation and Storage Areas.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills


  • Advanced knowledge of environmental, health and safety auditing programs, policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of pollution prevention concepts and practices and implementation strategies.

  • Knowledge of federal and local government environmental, health and safety laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively to promptly segregate, consolidate and neutralize excess hazardous materials.

  • Knowledge and training of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) 40 CFR 265.16.

  • Knowledge and training on the Department of Transportation (DOT) training for packagers in accordance with 49 CFR.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications.

  • Additional knowledge/skills may be required by assignment or contract

Experience & Education


  • Associate’s degree in chemistry or a related field; two (2) years’ experience in related field can be substituted for each year of the two (2) years of college.

  • Five (5) years’ or more environmental experience required including categorizing, consolidating and neutralizing hazardous materials.

  • Forty (40) hours HAZWOPER certification and applicable annual 8-hour Refresher certification.

  • Middle East, Department of Defense, or military experience preferred.

  • Must have responder experience at the Federal (including US military), State or local level.

  • Fire, HAZMAT, EMS and/or Law Enforcement backgrounds preferred.

  • Additional experience/education may be required by assignment or contract.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of fifty (50) pounds and move five hundred (500) pounds wheeled equipment.

  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.

  • Work may be performed in a non-climate controlled facility; long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.

  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.

Travel


  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
