(AFG-Oconus Kabul) Maintenance Supervisor

Maintenance Supervisor


Reports to: O&M Manager


Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy and/or its outlying sites in Kabul, Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects and other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time

Working Environment: The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites

Work Schedule: This position works ten hours/day six days a week minimum, is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to all critical customer service issues as required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supervise minor repairs of electrical, plumbing and heating systems, general maintenance, carpentry and escorting of un-cleared personnel.

  • Supervise minor repairs to electrical outlets, faucets, shower stalls and A/C units.

  • Maintains and repairs building woodwork and equipment-bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings and trim. Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models or verbal instructions.

  • Uses a variety of carpenter’s hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments.

  • Makes standard shop computations relating to work dimensions and reads blueprints.

  • Constructs, installs and repairs wooden structures and fixtures.

  • Builds and erects wooden frames, flooring, stairs, rail framing and installs doors and hardware.

  • Performs painting and sheet rock repair.

  • Selects materials and develops estimates and purchase orders for new work.

  • Escorts un-cleared personnel into designated areas and monitors them while they perform maintenance duties.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:




  • Must be able to perform physical labor including safely lifting a minimum of 70 lbs.



  • Experience in rough framing and minor masonry work.

  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, power tools, painting and electrical testing equipment required.

  • Expertise in standard shop computations and measuring instruments.

  • Experience in OCONUS operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.

  • Able to collect, analyze and summarize data and prepare daily reports and work orders.

  • Able to work effectively with multi-cultural workforce.

  • Must have good organizational and communication skills and the ability to exercise judgment and make decisions independently.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of custodial duties, use of cleaning equipment, products, their applications, effects and safety related issues.

  • Knowledge and use of material Safety data Sheets (MSDS).


  • Previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.

    Education:




  • High School diploma or GED required.

    Language Requirement:




  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English.




  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills sufficient to effectively communicate with management and the local workforce.

    Licenses and Certifications:




  • Skilled trades certificate in one of the following desired: Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC.

    Citizenship:




  • US Citizenship is not required for this position.

    Clearance:




  • Must have a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or the ability to obtain one
