Description:
The Initiative for Hygiene, Sanitation, and Nutrition ( IHSAN ) is a five-year project whose goal is toassisting the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan(GIRoA), civil society organizations(CSOs), and the private sector to carry out and scale up evidence-based nutrition and water, hygiene, and sanitation(WASH)interventions that will improve the nutritional status of women and children less than five years old. Specific project objectives include enhancing capacity to institutionalize nutrition programs, increasing adoption of optimal nutrition and hygiene behaviors at community and household levels; and increasing availability of nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation services and products increased. The project will focus on the 10 provinces with poorest nutritional indicators based on the 2014 national nutrition assessment.Recognizing that significant variations in health situations exist between districts and sub-districts in each province, we will promote improved nutrient intake and awareness and improved sanitation and hygiene practices by working with provincial health authorities and communities to strive toward improved coverage in priority areas.
Job Summary / Responsibilities:

Develops systems for organizing data to analyze, identify and report data and trends.
Manages data management issues by reviewing protocols for cross-project consistency and identifying standard case report form modules to meet objectives.
Develops data quality, budget and data management plans.Provides early strategic input into protocol design focused on data management issues.
Reviews and resolves data discrepancies for standardized data validation systems and procedures.
Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Accountabilities :
Oversees the day-to-day operations of all data collection activities and staff.
Reviews and makes recommendations on study protocols, approaches to data collection and study conduct.
Establishes and implements guidelines for the collection of clinical data and coordinates the ongoing analysis and modification of protocols appropriately.
Develops the CRF’s(clinical research forms)to be used by study site staff to collect data.
Works with Biostatisticians to develop error specifications and test data to verify error specifications are programmed correctly.
Leads the development, implementation and training of staff with clinical study startup activities and development of training materials and site training to ensure compliance with study protocols and managing study data.
Manages and maintains study schedules to ensure conformance with study objectives and completion.
Provides recommendations for improvements with data collection and systems and takes corrective action.
Works with staff to resolve data discrepancies during data verification and validation

techniques to obtain results.

Supervision Given / Received :
Leads activities in the development of software tools, surveys, visit trackers and mobile data collection instruments.
Ensures issues with studies or other projects are resolved in a timely fashion.
Plans procedures, budgets, training and resources with management to achieve strategic goals.
Technology to be Used :
Personal Computer, Microsoft Office(i.e.Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, telephone,
printer, calculator, copier, cell phones, PDAs and other hand held devices.
Travel Requirements :
Less than 10%
Qualifications:
Education / Experience :
Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Life Sciences or Related Field.
Certifications in Data Management are preferred.
Requires 5-8 years of data management and systems experience.
Proficiency in spreadsheet software and other technology required.
Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization(NGO).

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ability to analyze and interpret data, identify errors and prepare reports.

Typical Physical Demands :
Typical office environment.Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift 5-50 lbs.
