(AFG-Kabul) English Language Instructor - Senior Training & Development Specialist - Afghanistan


THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON GOVERNMENT FUNDING


JOB SUMMARY:

Sr Training & Development Specialist will provide Basic, Advanced, and Aviation English Language Training (ELT) services to Dari/Pashto-speaking Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) personnel and shall train/instruct local national ELTs in support of the Warfighter FOCUS (WFF) training contract in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Senior Training and Development Specialist reports to the ELT Program Manager and ELT Training Manager.

WORK HOURS

Work may include nights, holidays, and weekends on short notice. Standard will be to provide ELT instruction, program development, and related tasks for six (6) days per week for up to ten (10) hours per day while at OCONUS work site, and a standard 40 hour work week while at CONUS work sites.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Accept tasking and guidance from Program Manager and Training Manager to fulfill training requirements

* Plan, design and deliver customized programs of English language instruction

* Create lesson plans, presentations, visual aids and other training materials, as required

* Deliver classroom-based training to students of varying proficiencies

* Research and develop specialized language content (ESP), as required

* Design, create and administer various training assessments and evaluations

* Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required program reports and records

* Pursue continuous improvement of training services and products

* Set up, rearrange, improvise and maintain physical training spaces, as required

* Mentor local national English trainers, as required

* Observe and obey all established safety procedures and protocols

* Actively participate in meetings, training, professional development, exercises and drills, as directed

* Actively participate in the Raytheon performance development process

* Observe and comply with all company personnel/administrative processes

* When tasked, instructors qualified to teach aviation related English shall provide the fundamentals for the understanding and application of aviation terminology to selected military pilots, flight engineers, maintenance crews and other aviation-related career fields

* Other program duties, as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), English, Linguistics, or related degree from an accredited institution, and four (4) years of related experience, OR a Master’s degree in one of these fields with two (2) years of related experience. Eight (8) years of additional equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of educational requirement.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

* Native English speaker.

* At least two (2) years teaching experience in English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL). International Civilian Aviation Organization (ICAO) English, aviation English training, or aviation-related subject matter knowledge, professional experience, or other ICAO training experience may be considered in lieu of English teaching and curriculum development experience.

* High degree of competency with Microsoft Office productivity suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

* Excellent written and oral communications skills.

* Superb interpersonal skills, with proven ability to exercise respect and cultural sensitivity.

* Possess a collaborative nature, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in challenging, high-ambiguity work environments.

* Must be able to obtain an interim DoD Secret security clearance and maintain clearance eligibility throughout entire assignment.

* Willingness to travel outside of protected areas via military convoys or MILAIR, and wear protective clothing and equipment, as required.

* Deploy to various locations throughout Afghanistan, in support of mobile training team (MTT) mission requirements, as directed.

* Must possess a valid US passport and be able to obtain & maintain a visa for Afghanistan.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

* Include, but are not limited to, the wear of body armor and helmet Personal Protective Gear, unassisted lifting and carrying of duffle bags during transit not exceed the weight of 70 lbs. per piece, and the unassisted movement over uneven terrain.

* Must be willing to work and live in Afghanistan with an understanding that there could be further assignments to any location in Afghanistan based upon the needs of the U.S. Government, to include hostile and austere areas.

* As required, must be able to attend and pass USG deployment requirements at CONUS Replacement Center (CRC), Fort Bliss, Texas or equivalent location.

* Must be able to continuously meet the medical requirements for the position being offered as determined by a pre-employment medical screening and in accordance with published CRC and USCENTCOM medical deployment standards.

* Ability to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to eight (8) hours per day and sit for up to three (3) hours per day; routinely climb / descend stairs; routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders; read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print; and communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.

* Employee will be required to work and live in a potentially hostile environment, at remote locations, and under austere conditions.

* Employee may be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, under extreme weather conditions, within a hostile environment.

* The individual may be exposed to extreme noise from aircraft, hostile fire, and other acts of aggression associated with this region.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

* Minimum 120-hour teaching certificate (CELTA, TESOL, TEFL, etc.) from an accredited institution.

* Experience developing curriculum, to include design, scope and sequence, adaptation, resource identification and implementation, detailed lesson creation, activity design, supporting materials creation and assessment.

* International teaching or training experience, particularly in Muslim cultures.

* Experience teaching in operational military environments.

* Experience teaching aviation-centric language subject matter and concepts.

* Aviation expertise or work experience (pilot, aircrew, maintenance technician, air traffic control, etc.).

* Previous deployment experience in Iraq or Afghanistan between 2001 and 2015.

* Familiar with relationships between Resolute Support Military, CSTC-A, and the ANSDF.

* Understanding of the Military Decision Making and Campaign Planning processes, terms and definitions

* Familiarity with the International Civilian Aviation Organization (ICAO) English Language proficiency rating system.

* One (1) or more years’ experience in delivering aviation English training.

* Active, transferable DoD Secret Clearance.
