Research Assistant - United States Institute of Peace - Washington, DC

ORGANIZATION

The United States Institute of Peace is an independent quasi-federal institution established and funded by the U.S. Congress to:


Prevent and resolve violent international conflict;

Promote post-conflict stability and development;

Increase peacebuilding capacity, tools, and intellectual capital.


The Institute accomplishes its mission through direct engagement in peacebuilding efforts around the world, and by empowering others with knowledge, skills, and resources.


Pay :


Between $10-14 per hour


Work Schedule :


15-20 hours per week. Flexible hours


Expected Project Dates :


April 2016– December 2016, with possibility of extension


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


This position will support USIP’s Asia Center. The position shall provide/do the following activities:


· Assist with a wide range of research projects commissioned by the Asia Center


· Assist the Afghanistan team within the Asia Center on developing a database of partner documentation


· Support the editing process of Asia Center’s research publications


· Support the Asia Center in tracking and maintaining its contacts database


· Provide administrative and logistical support in planning Asia Center’s events


· Support other administrative activities as needed


QUALIFICATIONS


  • A minimum of 1+ years of related experience is required

    A Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, South Asia studies, or related field required.

Only full-time students from universities belonging to the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area (CUWMA) can be considered for these openings.

CUWMA members include: American University, George Mason University, Southeastern University, Catholic University of America, The George Washington University, Trinity University, Corcoran College of Art and Design, Marymount University, University of the District of Columbia, Gallaudet University, National Defense Intelligence College, Howard University, Georgetown University, National Defense University, and University of Maryland at College Park.


All USIP contract and employee positions are contingent upon the favorable completion of a suitability background investigation.


Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
