(AFG-KANDAHAR) Quality and Safety Manager


Job Summary


The Quality and Safety Manger will develop, implement, manage and maintain effective Quality and Safety policies and procedures that meet the criteria for ISO compliance as well as Corporate and government ground and aviation safety requirements. Will also develop, implement and manage a LEAN Six Sigma training program as well as other process improvement initiatives to achieve corporate quality objectives.


Principle Accountabilities


  • Work collaboratively with Corporate Quality to develop, implement and sustain a behavioral quality-based program

  • Serve as a quality liaison with Corporate Quality and ensure consistent practices and deliverables meet quality standards.

  • Lead and guide improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodologies and making high-value improvements across the program.

  • Implement corporate-sponsored best practices for EHS quality assurance processes; develop and utilize benchmark-based metrics, and develop & maintain reporting on these measures to ensure continuous improvement and provide needed information to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prepare, maintain, enforce, and update the QC plans to drive performance using ISO 9001:2008 and 14001 standards across the programs.

  • Conduct regular, technical reviews of all ongoing Lean/Six Sigma projects and thorough audits of project that are in closure phase.

  • Provide oversight of ES&H; Programs, including aviation safety and integrate them into the QMS.

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze program(s) metrics, including the AIRR and SIR Systems.

  • Direct EHS and Six Sigma training and implementation.

  • Prepare and submit functional area deliverables on schedule in accordance with requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2008 standards.

  • Empower workforce with stop work authority for quality breaches.

  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures and provide guidance on related disciplines.

  • Seek, share and assist in institutionalizing best practices.

  • Develops and implements program-specific process improvement initiatives.

  • Establishes and tracks progress toward meeting the goals and objectives of process improvement initiatives.

  • Ensures operational personnel comply with established and applicable DI policies and procedures.

  • Conducts audits, inspections to ensure compliance with DI policies and procedures and implements corrective actions as required.

  • May serve as liaison between programs, or various governmental agencies inside or outside the United States

  • Develops, collects and reports EHS and Quality performance metrics as needed.

  • Coordinate with DIR Corporate Continuous Improvement functions as necessary

  • Participates in the identification and implementation of all continuous process improvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills


  • Extensive knowledge of logistic systems, planning, quality control and supervisory policies, principals, procedures and techniques.

  • Technical knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma tools and methodologies including DMAIC, DFSS and Lean Flowcharting/process mapping software.

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations and requirements in a DOD environment.

  • Working knowledge of analytical methodology, statistical process control and continual process improvement.

  • Familiarity with the development and operation of management reporting systems.

  • Ability to develop and present senior staff-level briefings and management reports.

  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement approaches, including Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and change management.

  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical skills.

Experience & Education


  • This position requires the ability to obtain a Government Security clearance

  • Self-directed team player with 2+ years experience leading transactional and manufacturing Lean/Six Sigma projects as a Black Belt with demonstrated results.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or engineering; Two (2) year’s experience in related field can be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college.

  • Eight to ten years experience in related field (e.g., EHS & Quality)/

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in military planning and aviation operations.

  • ASQ Certified manager of quality and organizational Excellence desired.

  • Significant knowledge of the ISO 9000 series system.

  • ISO 9000 Lead Auditor qualification preferred; knowledge of Safety standards and general experience in dealing with environmental issues.

  • Completion of OSHA 30 Hour General Industry course.

  • Completion of US Army aviation safety program.

  • Certified LEAN and/or Six Sigma Black Belt Preferred.
