Do you have an interest in online communities? Are you a people person? Are you eager to develop engagement strategies for activating a diverse myIAVA community (formerly the Community of Veterans or Cov) to create real social change? Are you also interested in learning and using the latest innovation techniques for building successful digital products? IAVA is seeking an ambitious professional to manage, grow, and help build a premier programmatic social network, MyIAVA, serving veterans and their supporters.


Reporting to the Field Director, the Online Community Coordinator will have the opportunity to join a collaborative field team working to leverage lean development techniques to create a best-in-class experience for the IAVA community online. This person will serve as the chief user advocate for members of MyIAVA and will be involved in all levels of creative, business, and development processes.


The Online Community Coordiantor will be located in IAVA’s national headquarters in New York City.


Key Responsibilities:
The Online Community Coordinator will be IAVA’s bridge between our programs and our online community. They will identify opportunities to engage our online community in all of IAVA’s programs and initiatives spanning policy, communications, direct service, and leadership development. They will identify and execute on opportunities to serve as our brand ambassador within the community and our first point of contact for customer support. They will be deeply involved in both qualitative and quantitative user research. They will be a contributing member of our field team, helping to brainstorm, prioritize, and make sound business decisions supporting our organization and the veteran community. The Online Community Coordinator’s primary goals are to ensure that the experience of users within MyIAVA informs the development process to create a useful, welcoming, and helpful atmosphere for all users.


Lead on strategic identification of opportunities to move myIAVA from being just a social network to becoming a crucial programmatic tool for developing member leadership and providing a seamless user experience for accessing IAVA’s diverse program offerings


Grow the myIAVA user community


Lead user research within MyIAVA.


Adopt community-building techniques that support the growth and vibrancy of MyIAVA.


Work collaboratively across departments to create ladders of engagement within MyIAVA.


Present analytics to colleagues and leadership to inform development strategy and decision-making.


Train staff on online outreach techniques.


Develop a strategy to maximize adoption and engagement rates of internal and external users


Cultivate staff engagement within MyIAVA


Experience and Education


BA/BS degree required


1-2 years of experience in the field of online organizing


Experience with our Constituent Relationship Manager, Salesforce


Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills – both talking and listening are critically important to success in this role


Ability to engage staff collaboratively at all levels of the organization


Excellent writing and presentation skills


Strong analytical and problem solving skills


Able to develop plans with clear goals, roles, timeline, metrics and budget estimates


Comfort working in a fast-paced environment that demands rapid content development


Intermediate Excel skills (ability to make a pivot table) a plus


Traits:
The ideal candidate will be an energetic self-starter


Possess excellent written and oral communication skills


Have the ability to work both independently and as part of team whose members possess a diverse variety of skill sets


Demonstrate a creative and entrepreneurial spirit;


Though no skill in coding or HTML is necessary, possess a strong interest in start up culture, mobile technology, and innovation in general.


Have a positive attitude and great sense of humor


A commitment to IAVA’s mission and programs
