(AFG-KANDAHAR) Weather/Obs Forecaster
Job Summary
The Weather Observer/Forecaster performs weather operations for aviation activities, integrating current and forecasted atmospheric and space weather conditions into operations and planning.
Principal Accountabilities
- Prepare, launch, and report routine and severe upper-air observations
- Monitor, observe, terminate, document, and disseminate launch data
- Perform global analysis and forecast duties at weather and space centrals
- Prepare mission forecasts, integrating weather analyses and reports with radar and satellite imagery interpretations
- Brief aircrews, customers, and staff on current and forecasted weather conditions
- Conduct, gather, and prepare meteorological, astrophysical, and geophysical data utilizing specialized weather equipment and knowledge
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of Tactical Forecasting Systems and Doppler NexGen Radar
- Skill and knowledge in aviation forecasting, aviation briefing, and airfield observing duties
Experience & Education
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in weather station or forecasting unit including one (1) year in taking airfield weather observations
- Bachelor’s Degree in meteorology or atmospheric science; may substitute two (2) additional years of experience in related field for each year of college
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
