Associate Director, HQ Accounting - Women for Women International - Washington, DC
Since 1993, Women for Women International has served more than 407,000 women in 8 conflict-affected countries, including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Sudan.
Purpose:
Under the direction of Controller, the Associate Director, HQ Accounting will be responsible for headquarters-based accounting. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accountability, financial statements and analysis, timely month-end close, year-end audit and other special projects as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for overseeing Accounts Payable functions and all reconciliations.
Ensure timely 1099 and 1096 filings.
Maintain bank accounts and reconciliations.
Prepare the Fixed Assets reconciliation.
Monitor reserve accounts and investments.
Responsible for timely recognition of all revenues – fund raising, grants, sponsorship etc.
Prepare all necessary journal entries and upload in Great Plains.
Responsible for UK intercompany transactions and intercompany revenue recognition.
Prepare monthly IDC calculation and revenue recognition on Cost Reimbursement grants.
Prepare temporary restricted net assets (TRNA) reconciliation on a monthly basis.
Maintain accuracy in all the transactions while ensuring timely monthly close.
Maintain all balance sheet reconciliations.
Coordinate interim and annual audit.
Review and ensure accuracy for semi-monthly payroll.
Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree or CPA preferred) in finance or accounting field.
Minimum of five years’ general accounting experience and two years as a manager of an accounting department.
Demonstrated ability and proficiency to create meaningful financial reports using advanced Excel required.
Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems, preferably in a non-profit environment.
Well-developed participatory management and administrative skills, with proven ability to train and motivate personnel in a dotted line/matrix organization.
Highly organized with strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well with diverse personalities.
Ability to establish credibility and make decisions.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
