Title: Sr. Accountant

Position Summary:
Located in San Diego, the Sr. Accountant assists the Accounting/Finance management team in leading the implementation of new internal controls and processes. Identifies and resolves accounting system issues requiring creative solutions. Leads and guides the development and deployment of new accounting systems and tools. Reviews, analyzes and interprets company directives, policies and regulatory requirements. Establishes, monitors, maintains and reviews internal control systems and documentation for compliance. Analyzes, interprets, prepares and reconciles financial information. Reviews and analyzes unusual contract terms, conditions and accounting source documents. Develops and prepares internal and external financial reports for management. Advises on training resource for accounting systems and processes. Leads process improvements and guides changes as needed. Advises management, other organizations, customers and auditors regarding accounting policy and classification practices.


Essential Functions:
Leads the implementation of new internal controls and processes. Identifies and resolves accounting system issues requiring creative solutions. Supports internal and external auditors and provides guidance regarding implementation and problem resolution. Leads and guides the development and deployment of new accounting systems and tools. Advises on training resources for accounting systems and processes.


Analyzes and interprets company directives, policies and regulatory requirements to guide, direct and recommend overall accounting policy and practices. Advises management, other organizations, customers and auditors regarding accounting policy and classification practices. Establishes, monitors, maintains and reviews internal control systems and documentation for compliance. Leads process improvements and guides changes as needed.


Develops and prepares internal and external financial reports to provide the financial tools necessary for management to make optimal business decisions. Leads process improvements, serves as a training resource and guides changes as needed.


Analyzes, interprets and reconciles complex financial information to support the preparation of financial statements. Identifies risk and impact to company.


Provides guidance in reviewing and analyzing unusual contract terms and conditions and accounting source documents. Validates transactions and surfaces issues with the potential for process improvement.


Understands and is able to research revenue recognition methodologies according to GAAP


Understands and is able to research contractual as well as compliance concerns according to Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)


Performs other duties as assigned.


Typical Education and/ or Experience Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and typically 10 or more years’ related work experience, a Master’s degree and typically 8 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


DOD experience, FAR and CAS and SOX familiarity


Advanced Excel skills


Proficient with Revenue aspects of the Project module in Costpoint, including monthly Revenue Recognition process in accordance with GAAP


Proficient with Billing aspects of the Project module in Costpoint, including monthly Interco billings and elimination entries as well as Prime billings


Exposure to valuation and/or novation opening balance entries
