(AFG-KABUL) Mechanic Lead


Job Summary


The Mechanic Lead is responsible to the Maintenance Lead for the management and production of the Rotary Wing Section.


Principle Accountabilities



  • Assures production schedule and deadlines are met and quality of workmanship is in compliance with all directives and contract specifications.




  • Establishes good supply discipline, maintains good shop practices and enforces safety procedures.




  • Composes long range plans for the helicopter fleet maintenance program




  • Develops work proposals for submission to the customer




  • Assists and advises Forward Operating Locations (FOLs) on specific maintenance problems and issues.




  • Gives job assignments to assigned mechanics, coordinates with the maintenance test pilot, quality control technician and production control clerk.




  • Monitors rotary wing aircraft maintenance practices.




  • Coordinates with other sections for specialized and logistical support.




  • Schedules work programs; sets time tables, measures progress and redirect efforts as necessary.




  • Assures the quality of all workmanship is in compliance with all applicable directives.




  • Establishes and enforces good supply and parts control discipline.




  • Composes long-range plans for the maintenance and modification of the helicopter fleet.




  • Prepares proposals for the customer for modification, repair and maintenance of aircraft and equipment.




  • Advises and assists FOLs on specific maintenance and logistics problems.




  • Enforces safety practices and environmental safety.




  • Trains workers and host nation personnel as required.




  • Travels to FOLs on a frequent basis in order to support mission directives.




  • Performs other duties as assigned



Knowledge & Skills



  • Qualified on the repair of MI-8/MI-17 aircraft.




  • Skilled in the repair and modification of helicopters to include dynamic components, engines, avionics, and fuel systems and know the maintenance related operational limitations and parameters.




  • Possess the ability to plan, schedule and integrate complex events. Be able to communicate well with workers and supervisors.




  • Familiarity with Federal Aviation Regulations, the FAA Maintenance Bulletin system and US Army maintenance management system requirements.




  • Must have a thorough knowledge of hand tools, hardware and equipment used in the maintenance of assigned aircraft.




  • Must be fully knowledgeable of all requirements within the technical orders as they apply.




  • Must be able to read, write and interpret technical data as required.




  • Effective communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.




  • Ability to communicate fluently in the English language.




  • Working knowledge of various computer applications such as Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook).




  • Approved NACI within the last 10 years required.



Experience & Education



  • Completion of high school or equivalent.




  • A FAA Airframe & Power Plant (A&P;) or FCC Technician’s License is required.




  • Completion of basic level and mid-level management courses, either military or civilian.




  • Experience training Afghan military aviation mechanics in RW maintenance operations.



Physical Requirements/Working Environment



  • Location of duty is Afghanistan.




  • Living conditions may be cramped and substandard compared to western (US) standards.




  • May be required to perform duties at remote and austere locations.




  • Must be able to withstand extreme temperatures and environments while working in field conditions.




  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds to waist level and 30 pounds to shoulder height.
