Fire Systems Technician [Top Secret Clearance]
PAE is currently seeking a Fire Systems Technician to support contract for the US Department of State and working at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. This candidate will report to Embassy Project Manager, and will work in a military field office setting with additional duties on and around an active military base with exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites..
The Fire Systems Technician will:
Operate, maintain, install and modernize fire alarm systems and equipment in office residential and other related facilities at the American Embassy in Kabul.
Troubleshoot, locate and diagnose fire alarm system alarms and malfunctions using test equipment.
Repair fire alarm malfunctions as needed including programing modifications.
Analyze, troubleshoot, install and repair fiber optic cabling including terminations.
Inspect circuits for specified shielding and grounding.
Actively assist O&M team with operation, maintenance and repair of interior fire sprinkler systems.
Ability and willingness to learn new and different fire life safety systems.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
This position works ten hours/day, six days a week minimum.
Be available for overtime work on Fridays should there be a mission need.
Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required in other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time.
The Fire Systems Technician must have following qualifications and experience to qualify for this position:
A High school diploma or GED is required.
An Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or related field is preferred.
An Active National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II certification or above is required
Current training certifications for major fire alarm systems is required, preferably certifications on Siemens and Notifier systems.
A valid US driver’s license required.
At least 5 years of experience installing, troubleshooting and maintaining major manufacturers’ fire alarm systems is required.
At least 5 years of experience with Notifier and Siemens fire alarm systems is highly preferred.
Must have hands on experience analyzing situations and making frequent technical decisions based on specifications and applicable codes.
Working knowledge of current building, fire and life safety codes as related to fire protection systems is required.
Working knowledge of fire sprinkler systems and related controls is required.
Must have good customer-oriented service skills.
Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office programs to include Word and Excel.
Must have good organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.
Must be able to work effectively with multi-cultural workforce.
Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment preferred.
Citizenship: US Citizenship is required for this position.
Clearance: Must have an active Top Secret security clearance.
Must be willing to travel periodically (with extended overnight stays) as required while working on projects at other locations in Afghanistan.
