Electrician/Fire Alarm Technician [Top Secret Clearance]


PAE is currently seeking an Electrician/Fire Alarm Technician to support the US Department of State and will be stationed at Kabul, Afghanistan. The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites.


The Electrician/Fire Alarm Technician will:



  • Perform work required for the repair, maintenance, installation and modernization of electrical and fire alarm systems for buildings, equipment and grounds at the AEK Embassy.




  • Locate and determine electrical malfunctions using test equipment.




  • Repair malfunctions by such methods as replacing burned out elements, fuses and replacing defective wiring.




  • Clean and repair electrical motors.




  • Test electrical equipment such as motors, heaters and controls for safety and efficiency using standard test equipment and by observing functions.




  • Install fixtures, wiring conduits, motors and other electrical equipment.




  • Inspect circuits for specified shielding and grounding.




  • Report any malfunctions or lack of compliance to the Electrical Supervisor.




  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.




  • The candidate is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to all electrical critical issues.




  • Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects at the Consulate in Herat and other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time.



The Electrician/Fire Alarm Technician must have following qualifications and experience to qualify for this position:



  • A High school diploma or GED required.




  • An Electrical Vocational Diploma or completion of an Electrical Apprentice program with a Journeyman Certificate is required.




  • A State issued Electrical License and a training certification from a major manufacturer of fire alarm systems are required.




  • Certificate of completion from a recognized apprenticeship program is highly desirable.




  • At least 2 years of experience installing and maintaining major manufacturers’ fire alarm systems is required.




  • At least 2 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician is required.




  • Able to proactively analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications and electrical codes.




  • Must have knowledge of the occupational hazards of the electrical trade and related safety precautions and considerable skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and fire alarm systems and equipment.




  • Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and prepare daily reports and work orders.




  • Must have good organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.




  • Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.




  • Ability to work effectively with multi-cultural workforce.




  • Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment preferred.




  • Citizenship: US Citizenship is required for this position.




  • Clearance: Must have an active Top Secret security clearance.




  • Must be willing to travel periodically (with extended overnight stays) as required while working on projects at other locations in Afghanistan.
