(AFG-KANDAHAR) Laboratory Technician Fuel
Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician Fuel will analyze petroleum products received and stored in US Military tactical fuel farms and assure bulk petroleum stocks owned by the customer are kept within specification limits while being stored and transported.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)
- Set up and operate Petroleum Fuel Laboratory
- Perform daily calibration checks on equipment and maintained charts
- Receives samples and conducts test on petroleum products
- Identifies sources and types of contamination and deterioration. Makes recommendations for reclamation and disposition
- Coordinate and monitor the Quality Surveillance Test Program for Defense Logistics Agency/Defense Energy Support center-owned Bulk Fuels and Lubricants for assigned areas.
- Coordinate special testing of POL products, including troubleshooting of differences in results among laboratories.
- Analyze quality problems encountered at bulk storage facilities and network retail sites and recommend solutions
- Monitor filtration, handling, and storage of product to ensure product quality
- Ensure customer quality assurance regulations and standard operating procedures are followed
- Maintain files and documentation related to equipment tests and results
- Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations in performing assigned duties
- Perform staff and advisory duties by assisting and planning quality assurance, surveillance operations and programs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of fuel testing apparatuses and facility maintenance for testing facility with B2 capabilities
- Knowledge of Chemistry to comprehend significance of chemicals, gases, oils, missile fuels, and petroleum analysis
- Knowledgeable in Petroleum testing procedures and standards in accordance with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and Mil-Std-3004A
- Proficient in Microsoft programs including Excel, Word and Power Point
- Proficient in speaking, reading and writing English
Experience & Education
- Associate’s degree with equivalent eight (8) hours of college chemistry or equivalent military training or specific work experience.
- One (1) to five (5) years of experience
- Experience working in government-operated or contractor-operated laboratories preferred
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
- Physically fit to stand and bend for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds
- Eyes must have normal color vision
- Use of appropriate personnel protective equipment (PPE) may be mandatory
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse condition
