Job Description
SCOPE:
The Medical Housekeeper is supervised by the site lead or other physician extenders on the work site and ultimately reports to the ALiSS – Afghanistan Program Manager.
Hospital housekeeper’s responsibilities are sustaining a sterile environment in all areas of the hospital by cleaning rooms, making beds, replenishing linens and maintaining floors. Also ensure that proper infection-control policies are being followed.
All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHS is recognized.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent education required
- Comprehensive training in housekeeping is desirable
- Have a thorough understanding of Pathogen control and sanitation techniques, Use/storage and safety of cleaning agents, waste management and environmental-sustainability practices, housekeeping-related equipment (e.g., Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), buffers and vacuum cleaners, special requirements for isolation areas, patient centered care principles and practices, and health care facility layout
- Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience
Required Skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Routinely clean patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, laboratory areas, waiting areas and public restrooms, as well as launder all hospital linen
- Using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, housekeepers wipe equipment, clean furniture, polish floors and vacuum carpets
- They make beds, empty trash and restock medical supplies
- Housekeepers also collect dirty laundry from all patient areas and distribute the clean linen and hospital gowns back to the appropriate floors
- Using cleaning supplies and equipment are an essential part of the position, which is why housekeepers take a daily inventory of supplies such as paper towels, soap, toilet paper, as well as inspect their equipment for any repairs or replacements
- Clean patient rooms, surgical areas, offices and waiting areas using cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
- Clean and sanitize floors, equipment and furniture according to infection-control policies.
- Handle and dispose of waste using standard procedures
- Clean mattresses and beds according to established procedures
- Distribute clean linen and hospital gowns
- Assists with the managing of day to day activities and prioritizing tasks
- Operates personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software
- Complies with all applicable CHS standards and guidelines
- Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Must have a valid, current U.S. Driver’s License
- Must have a current U.S. Passport
- Must sign a CHS Foreign Service Agreement (FSA) and is bound to the terms and conditions of the FSA.
- Shall be proficient in the ability to speak, write and communicate in English
- Work hours are based on a 72 hr. work week; typically six 12 hour days but other variations may apply.
- Requires a favorably adjudicated Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) investigation conducted by the Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security
- Shall Attend a Pre-deployment Counter Terrorism training course prior to deployment to Afghanistan for work on the ALiSS program
Shall demonstrate proficiency in the use of basic word processing programs and the CHS Medical Management System software
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry a minimum weight of approximately 25lbs, stand for long periods of time, kneel, bend and crawl, squat and crouch
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Tolerate exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
- The climate is desert-like, hot, and prone to dust storm
- Must be confirmed by a medical examination to be “medically and dentally fit” in accordance CHS Medical Readiness Guidelines and Policies and/or as dictated by the Client
- No conditions that would prevent the wear of personal protective equipment; including protective mask, ballistic helmet, body armor and chemical/biological protective garments or conditions that would prevent the capability of donning, lifting or carrying of up to 70 lbs. of referenced gear while running to a bunker or protected area in the face of perceived or imminent danger.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment; travel in Afghanistan is required by surface or air.
- The climate is desert-like, hot, and prone to dust storms.
