DoD Field Specialist Lead - Rapiscan Systems, Inc - Torrance, CA

Under remote direction (with no onsite management support), oversees and schedules the work of a group of field service specialists (FSS) that perform a wide variety of complex technical support activities by installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and servicing Rapiscan x-ray security systems at customer sites in a field environment. Responsible for customer interface in the field to ensure that all of the units under his purview are being maintained in accordance with (IAW) Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (OEM) recommendations. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for the coordination of vacation time for the staff ensuring that the work load is not impacted as personnel exit the area of operation for extended periods of time. Develops and maintains relationships and favorable contacts with current and potential clients. Ensures that there is excellent client satisfaction throughout the delivery and maintenance of security and detection products and related professional services throughout the area of operation. Recommends system enhancements and/or design considerations to the product engineering staff as appropriate in an effort to improve system reliability. Will be asked to perform essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.


Responsibilities:
Coordinates the installation, calibration, operation, maintenance, modification, testing, troubleshooting and repair of systems of a highly complex nature.

Travels to customer sites for extended periods of time as needed to supervise the installation of equipment, the training of operator personnel, and the maintenance and repair of extremely complex X-ray systems.

Coordinates site management responsibilities in the field. Coordinates all required local support (subcontractors) individuals and activities while on deployment.

Manages customer expectations as the on-site company representative. Individual will be the on-site point liaison for the customer.

Oversees the coordination between the FSS and internal Rapiscan departments for parts as required, ensuring optimal equipment operation.

Ensures that documentation detailing the “fix” to the problem from each customer site upon completion of the visit is entered into the Navision database, as well as an internally designed database (as required).

Ensures that the FSS staff members are capable of acquainting the customer personnel with the capabilities of the equipment and/or systems to meet the immediate operational requirements.

Coordinates with the customer of all equipment changes and authorized modifications to be installed into the units as necessary.

Conducts OJT for FSS personnel in the operation and maintenance of systems and equipment at their assigned location, including the required annual FSS refresher training on each piece of BPI and CVI equipment.

Evaluates the customer’s needs/situation and deploys the appropriate FSS to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Oversees the training of employees in processes or methods in accordance with departmental procedures, practices and/or process sheets. Responsible for providing technical seminars and training for customer or company personnel.

Augments technicians in job performance (as needed) of maintaining continuity of work. Will be asked to perform the most complex work assignments.

Maintains quality of production, noting errors in work on departure from established procedures on part of employees he/she leads, correcting it and/or advising supervisors.

Reviews submitted trip reports to ensure accuracy prior to submission to the Rapiscan Service department.

Works with Field Service management to ensure proper FSS staffing levels are maintained and augmented as appropriate.

Coordinates daily corrective and preventive maintenance activities throughout the entire area of operation.

Ability to travel outside of assigned location up to 33%.

Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.


Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.

3 – 4 years related field service experience with X-ray equipment highly desired.

1 year of service support of equipment experience in a similar work environment preferred.

1 year of management/supervisory experience of personnel in a similar work environment preferred.

Must have active Secret Security Clearance with the ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/SCI.

Must be knowledgeable of engineering standards, equipment maintenance techniques and quality control procedures.

Knowledge of complex mechanical systems, familiarity with test equipment (DVM and oscilloscope) and experience with High Voltage and X-ray producing equipment preferred.

Ability to effectively use Microsoft office products, such as Word and Excel, and have a working knowledge of MS DOS operating systems.

Ability to effectively utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.

Customer relations and handling ability is paramount to this position.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required for effective interface with all contacts.

Must be able to approach particular non-documented issues and present solutions and set procedures in place for future incidents.

Must be able to work in remote areas with adverse conditions and cultures.

Must be available to travel on short notice, work non-standard hours, travel on weekends, and assist other field sites as required. High level of travel away from home for extended periods to remote locations required.

Must have active Top Secret Security Clearance issued by Department of Defense.

Must be willing to relocate to either Iraq or Afghanistan for at least one year.
