Job Title Equipment Operator
Job Description Under general supervision, performs a variety of functions in roads and Grounds department. Relies on instructions and pre-established guide lines to perform functions of the job. operates light, medium and some heavy equipment and light to heavy duty trucks. Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties related to project construction, operates and maintenance activities. May operate single axle dump trucks, dual axle dump trucks with automatic and manual transmissions, loaders, roller and compactors, tractors, sprayers, sweepers, plows, forklifts, backhoes and related equipment. Checks equipment condition and reports major mechanical issues; performs minor or emergency repairs, if needed. Turns valves to control air and water output of compressors and pumps. Adjusts hand-wheels and depresses pedals to drive machines and control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms.
May train less skilled workers in operation and care of equipment. “General Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities” addendum.

Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions, including lifting and carrying 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time. To ensure safety, health, and security measures within the contract are met, all employees shall be literate in English (read, write, speak and understand).
Living conditions on the project are most likely austere. The most austere sleeping may be in environmentally conditioned tents on “Army type” cots. Restrooms and showers may be 250 feet or further from sleeping quarters. Laundry service for 15 pounds twice per week is commonly provided. Meals are provided at regular intervals in cafeteria or “dining facility” style environment. Living area will most likely have constant hum of generators or similar equipment nearby.

Basic Job Requirements High school diploma / GED equivalent preferred. Three (3) years related experience. A valid driver’s / operator’s license is required.
Other Job Requirements Demonstrates ability to read, understand and apply engineering drawings. Follows instructions and meet set standards; Judges distance and slopes accurately; and makes decisions based on verifiable standards. Physically, workers must be able to: Stoop, bend, and crouch; Use hands, arms, and legs fully; See well (either naturally or with correction); and lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience preferred.
