Congress created the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) to provide independent and objective oversight of Afghanistan reconstruction projects and activities. SIGAR conducts audits and investigations to promote efficiency and effectiveness of reconstruction programs and detect and prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.
About the Position:
This position is located in the Arlington, VA Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR).
The incumbent serves as a Paralegal Specialist with SIGAR and works with SIGAR prosecuting attorneys (SIGPROs) detailed to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC. The incumbent reports to these attorneys as well as the SIGAR Office of General Counsel (GC) providing assistance in the prosecution of SIGAR cases.

Duties DUTIES
The Paralegal Specialist will work exclusively on matters that fall within the SIGAR jurisdiction to investigate the unlawful treatment, handling and expenditure of amounts appropriated or otherwise made available for the reconstruction of Afghanistan, and the programs, operations and contracts carried out utilizing such funds. The incumbent will support any investigations and prosecutions that fall substantially within the SIGAR jurisdiction by analyzing investigative, audit or other reports, drafting and preparing documents and performing research duties as appropriate.

- You will proofread completed legal documentation for grammatical and spelling errors.
- You will file documents with courts in person and using court’s electronic case management system.
- You will coordinate with various parties to schedule meetings, conferences, and other events related to the development of a criminal prosecution.
- You will analyze facts presented, research applicable case and statutory law, regulations, and policy.

Qualifications Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: work that involves supporting investigations and prosecutions by analyzing investigative, audit, or other reports; drafting and preparing documents; and performing research duties as appropriate. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08) .
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:
- Experience analyzing investigations or other federal agencies on legal issues
- Experience researching case and statutory laws, regulations, and policies
- Experience preparing memoranda/reports for review by trial attorneys
- Experience preparing legal research
- Experience analyzing defense motions filed in federal court
- Experience reviewing current legislation, directives, and decisions for various courts and administrative bodies
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-08 grade (or equivalent).

In support of this travel, the incumbent would be required to meet minimum standards of fitness for deployment to the CENTCOM region to include the ability to wear personal protective equipment, including protective mask, ballistic helmet, body armor, and chemical/biological protective garments.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a Form SF 312, Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement.
- The incumbent may be required to submit an Executive Branch Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.
- The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and subject to Random Drug Testing in accordance with AR 600-85 and Department of Defense Directive 2010.9.
