Afghanistan: Public Legal Awareness Training Consultant



THE ASSIGNMENT


IDLO seeks candidates for the position of Public Legal Awareness (PLA) Training Consultant for the Supporting Access to Justice in Afghanistan (SAJA) program which aims to increase awareness of women’s rights, legal rights and access to justice.


This is a Kabul based position for approximately 4 weeks. The consultant is required to deliver training on confidentiality and media.


Specific Tasks and Responsibilities


Reporting to the Public Legal Awareness Advisor, and under the overall supervision of the SAJA Chief of Party the Training Consultant’s duties include:



  • Tailor confidentiality training to the Afghanistan context;




  • Deliver training to staff of Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW) units at the Attorney General’s Office, staff of Women’s Protection Centers, and Kabul-based and provincial journalists in Afghanistan;




  • Liaise with the IDLO Public Legal Awareness team in Kabul and partners to include their input in the training curriculum and training delivery;




  • Deliver a training report of up to 10 pages, including recommendations; and




  • Perform any other similar duties as requested by the Supervisor.



IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE


Education



  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or similar field.




  • Educational background in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related fields.



Work experience


  • At least 7 years’ extensive experience in delivering communications, public outreach, and community relations training in a developing country. Knowledge of legal and ethical aspects of confidentiality and privacy, especially in sensitive situations or related to women victims of violence. Prior work experience in Afghanistan in the communications/media sector would be a distinct advantage.

Languages


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential. Working knowledge of Dari or Pashto is desirable but not a requirement.

  • Keen sense of ethics, integrity and commitment to IDLO’s mandate.



Technical competencies



  • Proven relevant work experience; and




  • Demonstrated experience using interactive training techniques and practical exercises to engage participants and teach them to apply the information learned during the training session.
