(AFG) LOGCAP Fire Prevention Specialist


POSITION SUMMARY:


Plans, organizes, and directs all fire protection activities throughout base camps, facilities and tents. These services include conducting fire inspections, providing fire fighting support devices such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and lighted exit signs. Develops implements and manages the fire protection maintenance, inspection and testing program to ensure compliance with AR 420-1, Army Facilities Management, Chapter 25, Fire and Emergency and USG theater policies, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Guidelines.


MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:


  1. Analyzes fire protection operations, determines trends and problems, and formulates corrective measures.

  2. Conducts and evaluates training on specialized fire protection equipment and procedures.

  3. Performs project reviews to ensure fire safety feature adequacy.

  4. Determines fire extinguisher distribution requirements and performs inspections and maintenance. Establishes and maintain exchange program for dry chemical and compressed air foam fire extinguishers, fire extinguisher holders and signage.

  5. Conducts fire prevention awareness and educational training as needed to base populace.

  6. Develops systems and procedures to inspect, test and maintain site fire protection equipment, including but not limited to, firewater pumps, engines, hydrants, hose houses, fire hoses, fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, post indicator valves, and emergency exit lighting.

  7. Evaluate fire protection equipment, including economics, to request resources to maintain/improve equipment.

  8. Establishes procedures to maintain appropriate documentation on the inspection and testing of all fire protection equipment.

  9. Performs scheduled audits of fire protection equipment and inspection and maintenance records.

  10. Lead and/or participate in emergency drills.

  11. Perform quarterly self-audits for compliance of procedures and document for auditing purposes.

  12. Develops and maintains documentation of all required inspections and tests.

  13. Participate in Safety and Health Audits.

  14. Develops pre-incident fire plans and develop risk assessments throughout base camps, facilities and tents

  15. Provides reports of fire inspection results to the Base Camp Mayor and Team LOGCAP.

  16. Performs other duties and assignments as required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


Possible travel to a potentially dangerous environment.


PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:


Must be able to meet strict physical fitness requirements defined by the Government Program Office and will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE-ex: Kevlar helmet, body armor, etc).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certifications : One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

Associates Degree and one year experience or High School graduate (or equivalent) and five years experience. BS/BA in Fire Protection Engineering preferred. Certifications: Fire Inspector I & II, Fire Instructor I and HAZMAT Awareness.


Experience:


One to five years of directly related experience. Knowledge of fire department mission and organization; safety requirements and objectives; fire alarm and communications; fire behavior; portable fire extinguishers; personal protective clothing and equipment; forcible entry, ventilation, ropes, ladders, fire hose appliances, and streams; foam fire streams; fire control, salvage, overhaul, water supplies and sprinklers; hazardous materials; fire prevention and public fire education; and fire cause determination is mandatory.
