(AFG-KANDAHAR) RTCH Operator


Job Summary

The Rough Terrain Container Handler (RTCH) Operator primarily operates up to 45-ton RTCHs (Container Stackers).


Principal Accountabilities


  • Operate, monitor, control, and maintain RTCH and oversee riggers as required to ensure they are operating efficiently, safely, and according to established procedures

  • Survey and plan all loads prior to execution

  • Enforce and follow government and company safety standards and practices

  • Conduct analysis of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) requests to determine most efficient mode of uploading/ downloading material

  • Coordinate with MHE Foreman and customers to provide scheduled lifts

  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks

  • Clean equipment as scheduled or required

  • Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills


  • Ability to write, understand, and speak English

  • Ability to read and interpret load charts, technical manuals, procedures, and government regulations written in English

  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and container handling equipment ranging from 4K to 45 ton capacity

  • Knowledge and skill in crane rigging practices and procedures

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and exercise good judgment

Experience & Education


  • Minimum three (3) years of verifiable experience as an RTCH Operator including operating 30K forklifts and RTCHs up to 45 tons, with at least one (1) year of crane rigging and sling load rigging

  • Prefer OCONUS experience operating equipment in an environment with military services, commercial agencies, and host nation elements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Prefer Equipment Operator training and certificate from National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), verifiable military or civilian Equipment Operator training from construction field, or related certification issued by a previous employer

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds, bend, stoop, and work around equipment, materials, supplies, and other items required to be handled

  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable

  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions

  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions

Travel


  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
