(AFG-Kabul) Plumber


Overview:

PAE is currently seeking a


Plumberto support the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Responsibilities:


The Plumber will:



  • Provide a full range of plumbing services to the embassy and all satellite sites under the direction of the AEK Plumbing Supervisor including installation and repair of plumbing and HVAC pipes, fittings, fixtures and drainage systems.




  • Assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.




  • Study building plans and working drawings to determine required work tools and equipment, and sequence of installation.




  • Inspect structures to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening the structure resulting from pipe installation; Locate and mark pipe and connection position and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using tape measure, spirit level, and plumb bob.




  • Use hand and power tools to cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings; Use a pipe cutter and pipe-threading machine to cut and thread pipes.




  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes made from metals or non-metals; Join pipe using screws, bolts, flanges, fittings, solder or plastic solvent; Fill pipe systems with water or air and reads pressure gauges to ensure system is not leaking; and Measure, cut and assemble PVC and copper tubing and fittings, including brazing, soldering and welding copper/copper, copper/brass, copper/steel, steel/steel, etc.




  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures, sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.




  • Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers, mending leaking pipes, and opening clogged drains.




  • Maintain pool equipment including sand filters, pumps, accessory equipment, chemical feed pumps, tubing and control system.




  • Assemble, install, maintain and repair pipes, fittings, insulation, valves and associated items for HVAC hot and chilled water piping systems including welding as required.




  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:



  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.




  • An Associated Degree in Mechanical Systems or related field from a two year college and/or equivalent field experience is highly desirable.




  • At least five years of experience as a Journeyman Plumber in operations and maintenance contract is required.




  • A minimum of three years of plumbing experience in a large facility physical plant and building operations is required.




  • Must have current License in Plumbing.




  • Must have working knowledge of the codes of the HVAC and plumbing trades.




  • Prior Welding experience and a Welding certificate are desirable.




  • Must have working knowledge of the occupational hazards of the plumbing trade and related safety precautions and considerable skill required for the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems and equipment.




A current active Secret Security Clearance is highly preferred. US Citizenship is mandatory to hold a Secret Security Clearance.



  • Must be willing to travel periodically on projects at Herat and other locations in Afghanistan with extended overnight stays. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time.




  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.




  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
