Electronics Technician II / Air Traffic Control Communications Technician - Lockheed Martin - Bethesda, MD

This position is identified as Strategic Review – Aligned to IS&GS Lockheed Martin is looking for an Electronics Technician II – Air Traffic Control (ATC) Communications Technician in Kandahar, Afghanistan to demonstrate the ability to apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems (i.e., those that cannot be solved by reference to manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents) in working electronic equipment. Work requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence and in selecting tools and testing instruments, usually less complex than those used by the Level III Technician. Typical duties include: May provide troubleshooting and technical support to IT systems and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on ATC radio systems and related equipment, LM radios, a handheld/pocket (Kestrel 4000) weather station (or a Speed, Direction & Wind Indicator set), and Cisco phones. Inspect equipment at specified intervals determining operational status. Replace defective components. Perform operational checks. Maintain inspection and maintenance records. Receive familiarization training on new installation equipment, if it occurs; specific training will be provided by the government.

Basic Qualifications

ET-II ATC Communications Technician US citizen with a Department of Defense SECRET security clearance (selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information). Candidate must also have a minimum of three (5) years of experience in electronics repair, maintenance and testing of Command, Control, and Communications systems. Security + obtainable within six months from hire date. CCNA, Linux, or Red Hat certifications highly desirable. Must be a graduate of a high school or a trade school & possess valid US driver’s license with photo. At least three (5) years experience working: Performing preventive maintenance on command, control, and communications systems and related equipment (UHF, VHF, and SATCOM); inspecting equipment at specified intervals determining operational status; replaces defective components; performs operational checks; maintains inspection and maintenance records. Responsible for maintaining data links, tactical display framework, air defense systems integrator, joint range extension, and multi-source correlation tracker. Maintains systems IAW DoD Information Assurance (IA) guidelines and performs CSA duties as required.


Desired skills

At least three (3) years experience working: Performing preventive maintenance on ATC; communications systems and related equipment; inspecting equipment at specified intervals determining operational status; replaces defective components; performs operational checks; maintains inspection and maintenance records
