(AFG-JALALABAD) Airfield Management Shift Lead

Job Summary

The Airfield Management Shift Lead must provide onsite emergency airfield response.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)

• Performs various airfield checks and airfield inspections; responds to the airfield during emergencies or any other situation that affects flight safety.


• Determines and disseminates Runway Surface Condition (RSC) and Runway Condition Reading (RCR) status to appropriate agencies.


• Performs Airfield Management Operations (AMOPS) functions. Brief aircrews on current airfield procedures, status and hazards.


• Reviews flight plans and other flight associated documents for accuracy and completeness.


• Processes flight data with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Defense (DoD), Air Force, or International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) facilities via telecommunication systems.


• Coordinates inbound and outbound flight notices with appropriate air traffic control agencies.


• Maintains data on aircraft movement, and initiates overdue aircraft actions as required.


• Manages Prior Permission Required (PPR) requests; coordinates aircraft parking plans with base agencies regarding transient aircrew needs.


• Operates radio communications devices. Uses crash alarm notification circuits in response to in-flight emergencies, ground accidents or incidents, and contingency or exercise requirements.


• Disseminates severe weather condition information to airfield agencies.


• Maintains flight planning displays and equipment, to include airfield diagrams.


• Maintains and updates navigational aid status. Prepares, maintains, coordinates and issues flight safety and local Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs).


• Oversees miscellaneous base flight information publications (FLIPs) accounts.


• Performs expeditionary airfield management function in support of USAF Agile Combat Support Concept of Operations for worldwide deployment of DoD aircraft.


• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiar with navigational aids, basic aircraft design characteristics, fundamentals of meteorology, and principles of organization, purpose, operation, and management of airfield operational areas.


• Ability to use wildlife control devices, including firearms, as well as any other necessary equipment to perform Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard responsibilities.


• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


• Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, instructions, and directives pertaining to airfield planning and design criteria, aircraft operations, and airfield management.


• Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.


• Knowledge of ICAO and/or United States federal and military air regulations, flight data and NOTAM systems preferred.


• Familiar with navigational aids, basic aircraft design characteristics, fundamentals of meteorology, and principles of organization, purpose, operation, and management of airfield operational areas.


• Ability to identify, analyze, and translate complex information, making appropriate judgments, and evaluating options concerning airfield operations and maintenance.


• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.


• Knowledge of US military operations and contracting support in a contingency environment.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.


• Advanced organizational skills, computer literacy, and demonstrated expertise of research methodologies.


• Additional knowledge/skill requirements may be required by assignment or contract.

Experience & Education

• Minimum four (4) years of commercial and/or military experience in supervising and managing Air Traffic Management activities with prior leadership/managerial experience.


• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.


• Previous experience with runway construction and repair preferred.


• Must be able to complete and maintain certification to operate a vehicle on the airfield, to include meeting all color vision testing requirements in order to operate a vehicle in the CMA.


• Must possess USAF AMOS certification or have equivalent education and experience.


• Prefer sound civilian/military management background displaying ability to staff, organize, lead and manage a diverse work force.


• Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

• Assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions.

Travel

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
