The position

The French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC) was founded in 2006 is a unique public-private partnership between the Governments of Afghanistan & France, a French NGO – La Chaine de L’Espoir/Enfants Afghans and the Aga Khan Development Network through the Aga Khan University Hospital. FMIC embodies a sign of hope for the medical care of children in Kabul. The Institute has risen to the challenge of charting a course towards sustainable health solutions for Afghanistan. It is the first ISO certified hospital in Afghanistan, aiming to provide compassionate, accessible, cost-effective, high quality care services to the population of Afghanistan. Currently the hospital provides 85-bedded inpatient care for children, including 15 beds for paediatric intensive care, four operation theatres, a department of radiology which includes CT-Scan and MRI capabilities, a state-of-the-art laboratory, a 24 hour pharmacy service and outpatient services for the adult population in medical and surgical specialties. This year FMIC will start new services for adult care such as adult Cardiac Care and 66 new beds for maternal care. FMIC also runs a Postgraduate Medical Education and is now working towards expansion of its health services towards establishing a comprehensive 400 bed Academic Medical Complex in Kabul, which will serve not only the Afghan population but Central Asia as well, as a Medical Centre of excellence.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

• repair, maintain & monitor machineries and equipments, condition and performance of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, hydraulic and HVAC system and pneumatic systems and devices


• proficient in at least two of the following trades: plumbing, steam maintenance, metal fabrication, control/alarm systems, HVAC systems or refrigeration


• have knowledge of national and state codes, rules, regulations, laws and procedures applicable to the trade


• have general understanding of basic building structure and repair


• communicate well both verbally and in writing with staffs and contract services and familiar with computer skills, including computerized Equipment Management System (EAM-10)


• perform preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM) and Inspection of equipment in the hospital


• prepare parts list and able to read electrical circuit and mechanical drawings to identify the required parts


• assists HVAC technician in routine and breakdown maintenance


• have good troubleshooting skills on electro/mechanical equipment and able to help and train others


• have experience on vacuum plant, medical air, oxygen generator, autoclave and boilers should be counted an asset to the candidate’s experience


• continued focus on the improved quality service and ensure effective operation and maintenance of all facilities


• conduct end users trainings for proper use of facilities related to MEP


• provide quarterly reports to Administrator FMD on Goals & Objectives and Quality Indicators, trainings and operational parameter of utilities including power consumption, fuel consumption corrective & preventive maintenance


• investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and to make recommendations to maintenance crew


• implement of quality management system JCIA, ISO 9000, TQM and CQI

The requirements

You should have:

• BE in Mechanical Engineering from any recognized University


• good presentation and communication skills in written/speaking English


• more than seven years work experience


• ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of other cultures, values and belief systems


• ability to demonstrate adaptability, flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity
