(AFG-KABUL) Flight Operations Specialist
Job Summary
The Flight Operations Specialist is responsible for the development, execution and tracking of a comprehensive flight operations program associated with an aviation training and operational mission support program.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)
- Serve as the Contractor flight operations specialist responsible to ensure all pre-mission, mission and post-mission tasks are accomplished in accordance with service guidance, regulations and associated authoritative documents.
- Responsible for coordination with adjacent and higher headquarters elements to provide critical flight related information to include, but not limited to – Special Instructions (SPINs), Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), weather, Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) data, Evasive Plan of Action (EPA) information, applicable Air Tasking Order (ATO) and Airspace Coordination Order (ACO) information, weekly communication card, and conduct flight tracking operations for all missions.
- Responsible for the establishment, maintenance and currency of aircrew flight planning room and associated publications accounts to include current and updated maps depicted the local flying area and associated hazards.
- Responsible for ensuring each crew member is issued an operational aircraft tracking and satellite phone and that each aircrew member has and operational and updated survival radio.
- Acts as the Contractors authority on aircraft flight tracking and is responsible for maintaining flight operations related documentation/records in accordance with applicable regulations.
- As the lead Contractor is responsible for creation and maintenance of the secure and non-secure flight operations area complete with appropriate intelligence/threat information available and displayed.
- Responsible for advising/mentoring local national flight operations personnel.
- Responsible for preparing and submitting Surface to Air Fire (SAFIRE) reports to appropriate agencies as required
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Able to read, write and speak English.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aviation and military terminology and is familiar with obtaining, weather reports, NOTAMS and PPR’s.
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of a military flight operations course of instruction, or five (5) or more years of Squadron Operations experience preferred.
- Completion of annual training for Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) 101, Anti-Terrorist Training and Human Right Certifications or other training prescribed by the responsible Combatant Commanders (COCOM).
- Five (5) or more years of relevant military aviation flight operations experience.
- Three (3) or more years of experience as a Flight Operations Coordinator (Specialist) and/or Clerk.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport
- Familiarity with aircraft is desired.
- Previous U.S. Government agency security clearance within the last 15 years required
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Assignment in overseas locations. Living conditions may be cramped and substandard compared to western (US) standards.
- May be required to perform duties at remote and austere locations.
- Must be able to withstand extreme temperatures and environments while working in field conditions.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds to waist level and 30 pounds to shoulder height.
Travel
- 10 – 15%
- Travel to austere or inhospitable high stress environments will be required.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
