(AFG) Justice Advisor


Responsibilities:


PAE Justice Support and the U.S. Department of State seek qualified Justice Advisors to serve on the Justice Sector Support Program (JSSP) in Afghanistan. The mission of the JSSP is to assist the government of Afghanistan in developing and strengthening the country’s criminal justice sector, as a means to enable the courts and the professionals in the justice sector to deliver fair and effective services to the citizens of Afghanistan.


Duties and Responsibilities:

* Conduct frequent training sessions with criminal prosecutors and investigative police; specifically focused towards investigatory and trial advocacy skills.



  • Assist in supervising of up to 3 each Afghan Legal Consultants (ALCs) and interpreters, and an Afghan administrative assistant.




  • Assist the Team Leader in program reporting to include a report analyzing the role of informal/customary justice in the designated province and identifying areas for potential coordination and cooperation with the formal justice system.




  • Liaise with local and international stakeholders by establishing and maintaining relationships with key local stakeholders including, but not limited to, local government officials; provincial and district-level police and prosecutors; international organizations involved in the justice sector; Afghan organizations involved in the justice sector; and customary and traditional law actors.




  • Assist in developing and revising the JSSP-R training curriculum and mentoring plan for police and prosecutors. Implement training program.




  • Implement mentoring program to coincide with and succeed training program. Spend some time during the week at the chief prosecutor’s office and chief of police’s office directly mentoring and advising them in police-prosecution coordination issues.




  • File reports for JSSP-R activities and accomplishments on a weekly, quarterly, and annual basis, or as otherwise assigned by the JSSP-R Team Leader, Section Leader or Chief of Team.



Qualifications:



  • Senior-level attorneys with backgrounds in prosecution, management, international cooperation, and/or criminal defense.




  • At least 5 years professional experience required. International experience preferred, but not mandatory.




  • Experience working on a similar contract internationally preferred but not a must




  • Ability to obtain a Moderate Risk Public Trust Certificate a must
