Elevator Technician
Reports to:Elevator Supervisor
Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy and/or its outlying sites in Kabul, Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects and other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time
Working Environment: The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites
Work Schedule: This position works ten hours/day six days a week minimum, is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to all critical electrical issues as required.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Tests, inspects, repairs and maintains Elevators. Coordinates and monitors the work for contract elevator services with the DOS Technical Managers.
- Performs maintenance, repair, minor modifications and revisions of Embassy Complex electrical systems, electrical equipment, motor connections, controls and passenger elevators under technical direction of the Deputy Project Manager.
- Repairs and maintains all electrical power supplies including service and distribution systems, main and distribution switchboards, panel boards, fuses, transformers, motor control centers, motor connections and starters.
- Performs preventative maintenance in accordance with published schedules, operating procedures and equipment warranties. Provides input to upgrade content and frequency of preventative maintenance tasks.
- Conducts tests of equipment using voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, frequency counters and other test equipment considered tools of the trade.
- Receives and accomplishes all work utilizing the Embassy work order system.
- Complies with all related published directives, standard operating procedures and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Performs repair of components such as rectifiers, inverters, associated generating and distributing equipment.
- Analyzes malfunctions in electrical standby power systems, distribution systems, motor connections and controls by visual and auditory inspection and makes necessary adjustments and repairs.
- Performs a wide variety of routine electrical maintenance and repair functions of general nature as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:
The Elevator Technician/Electrician shall have the following experience for this position:
- 2 years experience in the testing, inspection, repair and servicing of elevators.
- Experience must include familiarity with working sketches, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturers’ operations and maintenance manuals.
- Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and prepare daily reports and work orders.
- Ability to work effectively with multi-cultural workforce.
Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment is preferred.
Education:Completion of elevator apprenticeship or certification program.
- High school diploma or GED required.
AS degree in technical field is preferred.
Language Requirements:Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English, especially as related to electrical and elevator documents.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management and the client.
Licenses & Certifications:Training certification from a major elevator manufacturer is preferred.
Citizenship:US Citizenship is not required for this position.
Clearance:Must have a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or the ability to obtain one
