(AFG-KANDAHAR) Light Vehicle Mechanic
Job Summary
The Light Vehicle Mechanic performs repairs and maintains all light vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to, ATVs, light trucks, cars, and small engines such as pressure washers, air compressors, and small generators.
Principal Accountabilities
- Perform light equipment maintenance activities including installation, repair, trouble-shooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on all types of automotive equipment, gasoline and diesel powered vehicles
- Repair, adjust, and overhaul or replace major assemblies or subassemblies such as engine mechanical, electrical, air-conditioning, fuel, emission, power train, brake, steering, and suspension using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, gauges, etc.
- Provide input and data for processing work orders, invoices, equipment repair records, and activity reports
- Prepare equipment for use and ensure proper safety is exercised in equipment maintenance
- Maintain and account for assigned parts, equipment, and tools
- Adhere to all established safety policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste
- Perform recovery operations as needed
- Act as point-of-contact for maintenance issues in absence of Maintenance Supervisor or Foreman
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Specialized knowledge and skills in general automotive repair, maintenance, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements
- Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on computers
Experience & Education
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a licensed vehicle mechanic, MOS 63B/91B series, or equivalent
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Prefer Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Certification and experience
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push, and pull
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds
- Assist in lifting up to one hundred (100) pounds
- Ability to work in both inside and outside conditions and be exposed to dust, fumes, and gases from running engines and motors
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
