(AFG-KANDAHAR) Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Foreman
Job*Summary*
Closely supervises and performs heavy vehicle maintenance activities on all military and commercial equipment which may include (but not limited to) cranes, forklifts, container handlers, back-hoes, trenchers, loaders, scrapers, compactors, dozers, skid steers, and associated equipment.
Principal Accountabilities
- Responsible for assigning projects, supervising, and providing guidance and direction to Heavy Vehicle Mechanic’s in the safe operation and maintenance of assigned equipment
- Establishes job priorities and coordinates work flow for downed equipment to minimize backlog of work and cost to customer division
- Coordinates activities involving heavy equipment maintenance such as installing, repairing, trouble-shooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance
- Disassembles engines and mechanical units to inspect parts and operating defects
- Troubleshoot, overhaul, repair and perform maintenance on all types of automotive hydraulic equipment, gasoline and diesel powered vehicles
- Responsible for processing and maintenance of work orders, invoices, and equipment repair records
- Oversees the preparation of equipment for use and ensures that proper safety is exercised in equipment maintenance
- Responsible for the maintenance and accountability of assigned parts, equipment, and tools
- Ensures all shop personnel adhere to all established safety policies and standards to include identification, use and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste
- Provides direct support to internal/external customers to ensure compliance, tracking efficiency, burn rates, equipment usage and maximizing cost avoidance measures
- Coordinates recovery operations as required
- Ensures the proper administration, maintenance and distribution of approved publications, warranty documentation, and LDD and ECOD documentation
- Provides input for forecasting and monitoring of the stock levels for required service/repair parts and petroleum
- Maintains effective lines of formal and informal communication amongst all levels of management (and the customer) as required
- Prepares and submits daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports
- Responsible to provide for and enforce guidelines to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all assigned employees
- Acts as the POC for all maintenance issues in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor
- Monitors team development and ensures the execution of performance evaluations in accordance with DI policy
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Requires specialized experience in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance
- Understanding of maintenance production, production control and knowledge of U.S Army maintenance support systems
- Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Certification and experience is highly desired
- Knowledge of equipment parts acquisition, warranty, LDD, and ECOD submissions
- Must possess knowledge of DOT, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, Military regulations standards and OEM requirements
- Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research
- Problem-solving skills and sound judgment
- Strong written and verbal communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrative proficiency in Microsoft applications
- Knowledge of MOS 63 series (Army) or 3522 series (Marines) preferred
Experience & Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in heavy vehicle maintenance in a military/tactical environment
- Prefer at least two (2) years of experience as a maintenance supervisor (or foreman)
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push and pull
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds
- Assist in lifting up to one hundred (100) pounds
- Able to work in both inside and outside conditions
- Be exposed to dust, fumes and gases from running engines and motors
- Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
